So the union gave big time concessions and management shut them down anyway.

Shows how much good bargaining with management gets ya.

No way to know what the original contract was.

Doesn't exactly say what the prior contract was but the real take away is that the suits (probably) just decided to send the jobs out of state anyway. So yeah, don't trust the suits.

As much as I don't like Walker, I can't blame this particular thing on him. Sub Zero has been in trouble for years ever since their market dried up (new higher end houses needing high end appliances and upper middle class people with money). In addition the market has been flooded with look alike appliances from overseas that look like the Sub Zero. Then they have a top heavy management that would like to outsource everything and bonuses all around, so it has not mattered how much the unions want to give in. While Walker's good old boy pay (bribe/contribute to his campaign) to play network does discourage business from relocating here, I can't blame the Sub Zero mess on him.

Wrongo, young Grasshopper.

Why don't you pull up a chair while I school you on how a union works.

You see, many many years ago, in a time before the intranets, companies typically had to use the city (and surrounding areas) from which to pull its labor pool. Back then, all a union had to do what threaten to go on strike and management had to cave to their demands since there was no other place to get the needed labor.

That's basically all a union was good for - making threats. They never wanted to compromise, work together with management, etc.

To the union bosses, management was always the enemy, no matter how much management conceded to their demands. Because, young Grasshopper, without an enemy to protect the union workers from, there really wasn't a need for union leaders.

Now, fast forward to the present day, awash with the intertubes and global manufacturing, logistics, etc.... now, when the union leaders try the worn out "gimme more money or we're going on strike", management's collective response is now:

That's because management is no longer tied to the local pool of workers. They can now go world wide in search of labor.

I bust a gut now every time I hear the typical union leaders pussy response:

Seriously. It really, really does make my day.

And I know some union supporter will reply with something like, "but... but... unions gave us 40 hour work weeks, blah, blah, blah..."

And my response to that is, "Yep, Sugar Tits, and in way back land companies once helped this country by manufacturing buggy whips. But you know what, Sweet Cheeks? There ain't much of a need for buggy whips these days."

And so it goes for the outdated and unneeded union thugs.

Buh-bye, suckas!!!

/Cheers!

[Massive amount of derp]

You just showed the necessity of greater union protections, so that people are free to choose them instead of being beat down by unionbusters.

According to your logic, however twisted it may be, it's only free to choose if the answer is no. That isn't freedom, that's business-driven thuggery. The only sane choice is to make employers have to disclose any relationship with any firm that provides the means to intimidate yes-voters.

Walker promised more jobs, but he's yet to deliver anything but layoffs. Where are they? Hopefully the FBI takes the shiat-eating grin from him if the recall doesn't.

Way to apply your limited knowledge and experiences with unions without due diligence.

Unions are not categorically good or bad. It's dependent on the situation and the people involved every time. A single judgement across the board is fairly childish.

and it also offers justification to the race to the bottom currently occurring across America in wages for the middle class and poor.

fark that noise.

hey Bob16, why should workers be denied the benefits of economies of scale?

other inputs into a business enjoy such benefits, such as suppliers of raw materials. why not the labor input?

The entire South would disagree, given their across-the-board hostility about the subject. Sort of helps that they were indoctrinated by business to oppose unionization when industry expanded into the area.

Yeah, this has nothing to do with that fact that the company sells $6000 refrigerators that break on average about once every 18 months and requires a minimum of $500 to service each time.
