Homicide detectives were called because of "suspicious circumstances" at the scene, Nesbit said. The U.S. Border Patrol is participating in the investigation, Nesbit said. Further details were not released.

That's some good detective work there Lou. A body laying beside the road in a ditch. Suspicious you say? NUUUUU

palelizard: I piss on Lawrence Welk.

Piss on the tasteless costume and set tableaux (beyond cheesy...into Limburger territory), the lamo gestures at country and gospel, the relentless 65-to-death audience pitch, even Mr. Welk's own laughable Volga-Dakota-German accent (which Fred Armisten comes nowhere near, let it be said).

But he - and George Cates, his band boss - did lead a highly professional bunch of musicians that was pretty much the last of its kind on a regular program. A full pop orchestra: big band plus string section and extra rhythm players, filled with capable jazzy soloists and even a few musician-singers.

You don't see that kind of ensemble outside of Vegas rooms and award ceremonies any more, and they play nowhere near the wide variety of material that the Champagne Music Makers did. I seldom miss that show.
