It took them how long to figure out that they had basically a copy of one of the most famous paintings int he world?
It would be like Minnesota looking at a mountain and seeing a perfect copy of Mt. Rushmore

I have to wonder what was the point of this sibling element of the storyline. It was completely irrelevant to everything else in the original trilogy... except of course for that scene in the beginning of Empire where Leia got to first base with Luke. I know, it was just to make Han jealous, but still... ew.

What I've never understood about the Mona Lisa is that freaky background. A barren nightmarish landscape is no place for a pretty young girl to be posing for a painting. Take the girl someplace nice next time, Leonardo DiCapro!

The reason it wasn't discovered earlier is because the background was different. Read the article.

A friend has a side view of the Mona Lisa that was done by one of Leonardo's students. I wonder if that painting is also a copy.

Sorta like all the "Postman" paintings by Van Gogh. Saw one in Melbourne Australia and another, almost identical, at the Kimbell in Ft. Worth, Texas within a month. Shait that thing gets around I thought then found out there are like twenty + versions of the postman, similar mostly but not the same and all over the place (world).

The "original" is covered with a layer of old varnish which makes it look like crap. This one has been cleaned up.

her neck looks even more freakishly long than the original, I've never liked the painting because of that, and some issues with her face.
As a matter of fact I think some of the other ninja turtles were better artists but I've found if I mention that to other art lovers I get screamed at. If I don't say the Mona Lisa is the best painting ever then I just don't understand art.
It's almost as bad as telling a farker that I like the original Battlestar Galactica was better that the new one.

I was thinking the same thing. TFA says the copy has been on display. Its not as though it was just forgotten in the basement somewhere and just now was rediscovered.

No, the copy has eyebrows, better color harmonies and contrast, and actual human facial proportions. You should definitely like it better.
Also, if those are accurate representations of what both artists saw, Mona had some serious man hands.

Ok, someone explain to me what the fark is it with women wanting their picture taken standing in front of the painting with the mona lisa in the background?
Is it some crazy woman thing that I have missed or is it just women wanting to stand in front of the most famous female painting?

That's because she was a man, baby! The master himself (depending on who you want to side with).
