"Who gives a flying fark?" says everybody else.

It was a horrible song sung by a horrible singer with horrible plastic surgery and a horrible voice.

She sucked. Anyone who buys her album should be sterilized and sent to a loony bin.

Also, I thought her narcissistic response about her performance was horrible. "I thought I looked beautiful and did great." STFU, and go back to blowing truck-drivers or whatever it was you did before you became a "singer".

Who?

went to watch video

I see I probably won't need to really know who she is anyway, at least until she needs to start doing porn.

I think she's rich already. I'm thinking it's from a settlement from when all those Firestone tires that came apart, and she sued them because it was similar to how her dad's head exploded when he shot himself after hearing her sing for the first time.

I might be wrong though.

Lana Del Rey: "I did fine."
Me: "Wow, you are self centered."

Not the best, but not the worst SNL. Certainly better than any hip-hop or rap ever created, though.

Who the hell is she? All I know about her is that she's apparently Tatsuma's favorite singer.

Because every time she sings it might as well be a war crime.

I'm a huge Lana del Rey fan, I think that she's incredible (when she's in a studio and her stuff is processed) but that was a really bad performance.

Just say 'I'm not used to sing in such a setting, I was pretty tired, I was on Joos Holland earlier and it was much better, if I could I would pull out or do better, sorry'

2012-02-01 04:37:52 PM
Tatsuma: I'm a huge Lana del Rey fan, I think that she's incredible (when she's in a studio and her stuff is processed) but that was a really bad performance.

I think she's horrible. Her songs seem like those country music songs with really awful lyrics like "I wanna hold you like my cozy holds my beer".

2012-02-01 04:38:00 PM
She's like Adele for shallow people.

So the broad f*cked her way to a national tv performance, big deal.

No, you like her producer, who created the song and put a good looking blonde in front to sell it.

Speaker2Animals: Not the best, but not the worst SNL.

Well, that's entirely reasonable...

Speaker2Animals: Certainly better than any hip-hop or rap ever created, though.

...LOL nevermind.

Come on.

Believe it or not, just because you don't like a genre doesn't mean there's no talent in it.

I haven't had a chance to actually listen to the proper album yet, but I have no problem admitting that I've had her EP on pretty heavy rotation for the last few months.

Her performance on SNL was farking atrocious, and saying otherwise just makes her look like one of those delusional contestants during the American Idol auditions who are just completely shocked when they're told how badly they suck, because "OMG my friends think I'm a really good singer, you guys just dont' know what you're talking about!"

I like her songs, but I'm beginning to think that performing live is just not really her thing.

Question - is Lana Del Rey's SNL performance really worse than when Jessica Simpson's no-talent sister was caught lipsyncing her song, and then awkwardly breaking into a stupid jig?

2012-02-01 05:07:12 PM
Outrageous Muff: No, you like her producer, who created the song and put a good looking blonde in front to sell it.

You know what?

If a song has great lyrics, great music and a great performer, I don't care whether it was produced in a lab by a cold calculating robot, or organically by a girl who was living in a van for a living

Greatness is greatness.

2012-02-01 05:09:03 PM
"I actually felt good about it. I thought I looked beautiful and sang fine,"

I don't even know who this chick is but she sounds like a real coont.

Don't they use auto-tune and shiat on all these pop stars now which precludes them from sounding decent live?

/hasn't listened to pop since 8th grade

2012-02-01 05:10:33 PM
PolloDiablo: I like her songs, but I'm beginning to think that performing live is just not really her thing.

Yeah and that's fine with me, as I don't plan to ever see her live, or don't care much for live recordings anyway

Very very very VERY few artists are able to perform better live than in studio. And that's perfectly fine.

As long as a song is great, entertains me, makes me feel emotions, who cares if it was touched by a producer to make it that way? It's great, entertains me and makes me feel emotions. What the fark else do you need?

RexTalionis: Question - is Lana Del Rey's SNL performance really worse than when Jessica Simpson's no-talent sister was caught lipsyncing her song, and then awkwardly breaking into a stupid jig?

It was worse. Simpson is like the girl that gets kicked out of college for plagiarism, while Del Rey is the girl that flunks out... even after she's blown all her teachers for better grades.

That's fine. But she isn't a musician. She gets by using the very limited talent she has. She's no different then Florence + The Machine or Adele. Moderately talented, but in a market that has no talent they are queens.

I would agree that she has limited talent, and that she's mostly a studio voice and look/attitude

But you know what? That studio voice and look/attitude are really farking awesome.

Video Games
Born to Die
Kinda Outta Luck
Diet Mtn Dew
Blue Jeans

and many others songs are a testament to that.

I absolutely believe that Video Games is one of the top 5 singles of 2011. Born to Die will at least be in the top 10 of 2012 as well. As a studio artist, she's brilliant.

She can't sing live? As I said, I don't care. I'm not gonna watch her live, and I don't consider her to be a singer with a great voice. Those are dime a dozen. It's not what makes a song or a record special.

Again: Women with a great singing voice are dime a dozen. It's not what makes a song or a record special.

I saw it with a group of people, and we all sort of watched it with a "wait, is this real?" expression on our faces. It was that bad.

How dare she hold herself in a higher esteem than you do!
You have clearly mastered humility.

The performance on Saturday Night Live was the worst. My wife and I both could not believe how bad it really was. It sucked green donkey dicks. Off key cat calls from a woman that could not carry a tune in a bucket. The only way you could miss that many notes would be if you were a fingerless leper playing Guitar Hero for the first time.

(While playing "Through The Fire And The Flames" on EXPERT level)

I think she might be a halfway decent singer if she stopped trying to sound like Lurch from The Addams Family.

Isn't this the girl who's rich daddy bought her fame?
Or has her publicist already denied this evil rumor, telling us instead "she has achieved fame all on her own."

2012-02-01 07:31:29 PM
She played on Canal+ in France a couple days ago (different song). The performance was a little better, but she just doesn't have very good (or appealing) pipes, IMHO. She sounds like an amateur.

Live on Canal+, if you care (new window)

If anyone is interested what a really talented chanteuse-type singer sounds like, look no further than Geike Arnaert and Hooverphonic. This is how it's done.

Lana Del Rey sucks, Ray.

2012-02-01 07:49:28 PM
She was, um, not good. I'm not a fan of her voice or the songs I heard.

That said, there have been worse. Like Paul McCartney the last time he was on.

My wife thoroughly panned her, as did people here; didn't quite get why. (But my wife also loved Ellie Goulding, which I didn't quite get.....)

SNL's kind of gone indie on some of its choices lately. Or maybe they're just looking for female vocalists Kristen Wiig can imitate in a skit.

/Since you've got such an affinity for Canucks, how about some Tegan and Sara, Lorne?
//And no more Alec Baldwin. Seriously.

Great lyrics? Really? There's no possible way you believe this unless she's actually sucking your cock right at this exact moment.

The rest of it I would leave up to personal taste, but that...just no.

2012-02-01 07:56:08 PM
You think that was bad? I remember Marianne Faithful trying to sing with laryngitis. She only had half a voice left to begin with, then she got sick. It was like hearing a catfight over a bad cell connection. All pops and squeaks and dropouts.

2012-02-01 08:02:53 PM
When i saw that performance, i thought "is this a joke"? It was farking terrible.

I might pick up the album, however. I am a sucker for pretty girls.

I just assumed that meant she sings about Israel.
