The FBI likes to intimidate suspects by using a chainsaw to go through apartment doors, a technique that's especially intimidating when they saw through the wrong door

Good way to get shot in a state where you can carry guns.
Too bad they didn't try an unannounced entry in Vermont.
Or are they not even that stupid?
They only do this in states where guns aren't readily available?
that and frighten scientists into commiting suicide.
Such big brave men.

So much this. My plans for anyone attempting to break down the door to my castle involve several unannounced rounds of .45 acp and 30-30 in their general direction.

I am not one of those guys who hates the police and wishes them ill just on general principle, but there is a part of me that wants to see this happen often enough that police stop to think a little bit about the wisdom on no-knock raids.
Hell, any gang of home invading robbers can yell "police" before barging in to your house and most people these days would fall for it. As I see gang activity go up in my neighborhood, this scenario concerns me more and more.
The cops should have to positively identify themselves before entering any private residence, the rare instance of bags of cocaine getting flushed down the toilet be damned.
It's not safe for the citizens of the country, and (not to ITG) if they fark up and try it at my house, I'm afraid it's going to be a tragedy for more than one family
I don't want to shoot anybody, especially not a cop doing what they think is their job, but every citizen in the country should be confident that if someone is breaking in to their house at 3am they are bad people intending to do you and your family harm and you should come out of the bedroom guns blazing.
And no, I'm not some right wing gun nut, I am liberal peacenik who believes in having the ability to defend himself and his family.

I imagine that they will be dragging the chainsaw operater off first. Bullet proof armor does not apply to most hunting rounds. Then again, if you notice, historically, those barrages of bullets from the police do not generally happen when they are under fire. They generally pull back a bit initially.

Yes, but the millions they'd lose in the wrongful death/negligence lawsuits would probably make them pay a bit more attention.

If you're ever attacked with a chainsaw through the door, throw a molotov and offski out the window.

not Atlanta cops. A few years ago they busted into an old lady's house on a drug raid (wrong house whoops) and she was scared as hell and armed so shot at what she thought were home invaders. They killed her.

IIRC she was in her eighties, almost blind and was shooting a revolver. From a police standpoint, I guess that would be a tactical victory.
I imagine after she ran out of ammo they shot her and sprinkled crack on her. How many years are those pigs doing? I don't recall exactly but I do remember that they were convicted.

I've always wondered why they don't just shut the water supply right before knocking. I mean, if it's enough drugs that it's worth busting in and potentially killing people for, it's gonna take more than one flush.

i know i break a cardinal rule by not submitting a link, but there was an incident here in town over the weekend where a guy was attempting to break into a home via the back door. the homeowner let loose several rubber bullet shotgun rounds (not sure where he got those btw)
but he did so THROUGH THE DOOR and may be on the hook.
i'm not entirely sure how i feel about this. on one hand, common sense tells you that nothing good can be happening at 3 am with someone trying to bust down your door.
on the other hand, anybody with even 10 minutes of weapons training knows that you are supposed to IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET before letting loose.
it may be far fetched, but if that "bad guy" was just his drunk ass neighbor who confused one house for another, well i'd kinda feel terrible.
life is confusing.

"FBI agents had swarmed her apartment building, broke down her door, and held her at gunpoint for at least 30 minutes while her 3-year-old daughter cried in the background-until they realized they were at the wrong apartment"
The FBI realized their mistake when the guys from the apartment down the hall came complaining "Hey, can you keep the noise down? We're trying to sell drugs over here!"

I'm stunned they didn't shoot the dog.
What should happen:
Every officer/agent on that raid is fired and prohibited from working in law enforcement in the future
The woman recieves a large settlement paid for by the raiding officers themselves
What will happen:
Officers get a paid vacation
Woman fights for compensation for years. If she's very lucky, she eventually gets a settlement paid for by taxpayers.

That sounds like a good way to end up dead. Both me and my roommate own guns. Said guns are in apartment. I know if a chainsaw started coming through the door I'd have my handgun loaded real fast and rounds would start going through the door. I'm pretty certain my roommate would not hesitate to open fire as well.
I mean, a chainsaw through the front door? That's just asking for it. When did escalating a situation from "Flush the goods" to "I'm gonna be hacked to pieces by a chainsaw-wielding madman" become a good idea?
