Well, if those rappers had real def rhythms and fresh new jams, they wouldn't need to do this sort of thing.

So the guy who sent the letters to the banks was a victim, and law enforcement didn't prevail for him. What About him ? Oh he was supposed to just suck up his 65k loss. Gotcha

Let's totally ignore the fact that Mr. Thrifty likely spend more in gas driving to the "Free printer" university than he would have paid to print out the pages at the same place he typed them up. Certain people always THINK they're being thrifty but are just setting themselves up for higher bills down the road.

More letters postmarked at Amarillo continued to arrive over the next few days; one was cut open by a machine at a Chase card payment facility in Elgin, Ill., sending white powder swirling about the room.

I remember this. I was working at that building when this happened. Me and a few people in my department were working our normal shift on Sunday when it happened. They evacuated everybody from the building but forgot about us. We didn't know what was going on until one of the people I worked with looked out of the window and saw everybody standing around in the parking lot. As you can imagine after it was found out that they didn't come get us quite a few people lost their jobs. I never knew it was a hoax anthrax attack. What we were told was that it was a package of powder sugar that was sent to the credit card payment processing department in the building instead of the kitchen and had accidentally broken open, and hazmat was called just as a precaution.

2008 was a fun time at that building. We had to have armed security for a while because of all of the threats that were directed at that particular building. Someone even set a couple of cars on fire in the parking lot one day. fun times.

I was working on some printers in some single-wide turned into office space on a base once. After a hour or two, I walk out the door and around the corner, right where the base chapel was. As it turns out, somebody had left a bunch of clothes to donate to the chapel right on the front steps, on a base in a mainly Muslim country. They had gone door to door and quietly evacuated that part of the base - but missed the building I was in. And there I stood, face to face with a guy in a full body bomb suit standing over some pastel blue 70's era piece of luggage. He was gently kicking it with his foot when he saw me and said "I really don't think you should be standing here."

Sad but true. And in many ways parallels Western involvement in Iraq.

Interesting and well written article. The news that thousands of copycat and when they spiked was very interesting and strangely ignored by the media. Has there ever been a real anthrax attack since the original one? Has the original ever really been solved? Not the last time I checked. Another lovely remnant of the glorious Bush years! Terror has lost all meaning. And this guy got off light with less than a month per letter, and I am glad that he did, seems like he got one of the lovely parting gifts of the Great Robbery.

Anthrax Fun Fact: If you listen to the studio version of "I'm the Man" very carefully at one of the breaks there is a split second sample from Metallica's "Master of Puppets". One word... "MASTER".

People who are that Gung-Ho about Spreading the Disease really need to be put in a Madhouse.

That's the Only way to make sure this problem goes away. I'm Alive and I prefer to keep it that way.

I believe it was a reference to the line in the article about inmates mailing powder in the hopes of getting a federal conviction and the subsequent move to a better class of prison.

The correct way to handle this is to make the banks work for their cash. That means making it so fees are not a viable means of profit Link (new window) or create excessive processing, or removing your business from an offending bank.

white powder scares only cause your taxes to go up through the use of emergency services.
