The only legitimate question to pose against science articles isn't there:

"Does this confirm or deny Biblical truths?"

Duh. That's obvious.

He got paid to write that?

1) Everything deserves scientific scrutiny

That's a pretty bold assertion.

Sybarite: That's a pretty bold assertion.

I think this needs to be researched more.

The comments are wonderful, and deserve more study.

i09 should follow their own advice more. They frequently write news articles on science that fall into some of the same journalist traps... like essentially taking a press release at face value with zero critical commentary.

Mysteriously absent: the article being written by science fiction geeks on io9 who have no idea what they are talking about

subby sure put a lot of effort into that headline

If biatching about how poorly io9 reports science is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

However, it turns out that in this one particular instance I agree with just about everything TFA says. I guess the Mayans were right. :o

/I really do hate when news reports on science don't at least have a citation for the original research paper

This becomes a worse aggravation when nothing from the study is noted at all. Everything in articles anymore are comments from the researcher(s) which means tons of work trying to locate works including electronic copies. You would think science would be the simplest thing to contextualize and source, yet never fails sources are missing and little else is offered while crimes and things will have location descriptions, eyewitness accounts, accounts from bystanders at the scene, comments from police, and police data.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure I'm able to identify the critical flaws of any scientific study from 3rd-hand descriptions.
