Sounds reasonable.

Didn't Santorum's GOP colleagues in the Senate openly admit he's a real stupid moron?

I wonder if he's coached his kids for their eventual photo when he's on the floor at the Convention? If his daughter cries again, it could be her biggest claim to fame...

Isn't this the GOP strategy of the last 10+ years? Try the same thing again and again, expecting the same result?

Jake Havechek: Didn't Santorum's GOP colleagues in the Senate openly admit he's a real stupid moron?

I don't know, but the best quote about Santorum from his Senate colleagues probably was the one from Bob (not John) Kerry: "Santorum, that's Latin for asshole."

2012-02-01 10:55:08 AM
I love it. Gingrich says Santorum should get out of the race so he can win. Santorum says, "O rly?"

Well, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certainly did.

Santorum logic? Isn't that the biggest contradiction in terms since military intelligence?

It would seem that statement just kind of spurted out.

Yeah, that was pretty resounding. No wonder his whole family was blubbering over being thrown off of the gravy train.

To be fair, Pennsylvania is a pretty finicky state. In the not two distant past we had 2 Republican senators and a Democratic governor. PA seems to be consistently blue for POTUS but internally kinda all over the place.

Pittsburgh in the west, Philadelphia in the east and Alabama in the middle, as Carville once put it.

Although it was presumptuous for Gingrich to call Santorum to get out prior to SC, when basically this was the results so far:
Romney: 1st (Tie), 1st
Santorum: 1st (Tie), 4th (Tie)
Paul: 3rd, 2nd
Gingrich: 4th, 4th (Tie)

I mean, at that point, Gingrich had the worst results of the "Final 4".

With SC and FL though, you now have:
Romney: 1st (Tie), 1st, 2nd, 1st
Gingrich: 4th, 4th (Tie), 1st, 2nd
Santorum: 1st (Tie), 4th (Tie), 3rd, 3rd
Paul: 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 4th

While Santorum can probably run in a few more contests, if he can't pull some quality finishes ahead of Gingrich, he should probably get out before Super Tuesday. Paul will stay in just because he is Ron Paul, but, unless Santorum can pull off some more caucus surprises, Newt is probably right about it being a 2 person race.

So you can beat Mitt, can you Rick?

You haven't so far. Are you waiting for a specific state before you put your plan into action? Losing when say you can win doesn't seem like a sound strategy to me.

I mean, that won't bode well when you invade Iran.

President Santorum: "We can win this war, but just not right now. We'll wait, lose some good men and some planes and ships, then we'll kick it up a bit".

It's that sort of wonderful planning that causes others to think that "having a surge" is a good idea while ignoring the fact that it's an admission you didn't have enough there in the first place.

ManateeGag: says the man who came in a distant 3rd.

To be fair, I consider him slightly more electable than Gingrich. That doesn't mean that Santorum is going to win (or would be a good president), it's just that I think that Gingrich is a disaster for the Republicans.

Well, there are other ways to vote, you know.

* You can punch the hole for Santorum.

* You can fill in the black for Santorum.

* You can even write in Santorum, though that's frowned upon.

The point is, you're not limited to pulling the lever for Santorum. NTTAWWT.

Sick

So Santorum sees a large pile of support on his chest just waiting for him to make use of it and it thinking the support is based on surface area as opposed to volume? I mean it may look big, but it's mostly just empty air creating the frothy-like composure.

I don't think you understand what constitutes "proof."

Santorum is still running?

Whats sickening is out of the not Ron Paul candidates, Mitt Romney is the least despicable. And he's a complete douche.

Mike Huckabee has to be kicking himself for not running in this one. Weakest group of Republican nominees I've ever seen by far.

I can't believe that there are over 200,000 people in the state of Florida who think that Santorum is a good person to nominate.

I liked that Huntsman fellow. Shame he had to go. But it did seem like he had all of his marbles, so I can see why the GOP didn't want anything to do with him.

Frothy logic?

2012-02-01 03:12:20 PM
One of the many damned strange things about this GOP race is that it occasionally makes me feel sorry for Rick Santorum.

I mean sure, the guy holds absolutely reprehensible views on a wide array of subjects (gays, women, health care, health care for gays and women, etc.), but at least he appears to bloody well OWN those views. He doesn't flip-flop with the frequency of a cesium atom like Romney, or go off some bizarre media-bashing tangent like Gingrich.

On top of that, he seems to be a genuine family man (in a freakily repressed Leave it to Beaver kind of way), and the only GOPer left who's actually willing to say that just MAYBE the out-of-control wealth gap in this country MIGHT be a problem we should look into.

And yet, the evangelicals are flocking to Gingrich and Romney. Why? If you're a pro-life, anti-gay, family values voter, why the heck would you prefer either of those two amoral farknozzles over a guy who seems to be walking the walk?

Feh. Republicans. Go fig.

/ Didn't mention Ron Paul.

I wouldn't be surprised one iota to find out that Santorum had been having gay sex on the side and in secret.

I did too. I really thought it was going to be no clear winner at convention time, so after the free-for-all starts, the delegates were going to go into a back room where the real powers of the GOP were going to say, "Huntsman's the only sane one of them, nominate him or DIAF, literally."

Wouldn't surprise me either. But until that day, I'm genuinely curious as to why ANYONE in the "Jesus for President"/"The Constitution Is Directly Derived From The King James Bible" camp would prefer a pandering scuzzbucket like Gingrich over Santorum.

I mean, I'D never vote for the guy, but he seems to be a central-casting lock for that demographic...

Actually, Santorum has a good point. If Santorum were to leave the race, half his supporters would go to Romney and the other half would go to Gingrich, net zero impact. If Gingrich were to withdraw, the vast majority of his supporters would go to Santorum. The gap between Santotum and Romney would certainly narrow, but whether it would be narrower than Romney's lead over Gringrich is questionable. It is a thin argument, but a valid one.
