I don't know if he is way out there (probably), but in his interview with Shatner it seemed like he'd been hitting the blunts just beforehand.

Avery Brooks was a primary reason I could just not get into DS9. Every line delivered like he was in a stage production of Othello. Just too much. What Patrick Stewart did so effortlessly came off as hammy for Brooks. Sisko sucked, ripped me out of every scene he was in.

I'm glad he got arrested.

I used to find his delivery strange, too.

Two decades worth of screaming black-man-for-white-boys from Samuel L. Jackson later.... Avery Brooks interpretation of Sisko is a revelation, refreshing and powerful. There's so much happening in his deliveries, and he's so soft-spoken and calm, he forces you to pay attention to him.

(Kind of like how I used to hate the delivery of the 'good' brother on Classic V. Now, it's the 'thug' brother who makes me wince in those early episodes, not the doctor. I love the Doctor Thug brother grew on me as he lost the need to put on an act.)

(Wonder how I'll feel about Olivia's daddy on The Cosby Show, if I went back to watch.....)

This, was the first thing to come to my mind after reading that story.

I was never a big fan of DS-9, but I used to love Spenser For Hire - and the novels from which the series sprang.

While some may disagree about how he played Sisko, Avery Brooks absolutely nailed the role of Hawk.

Too bad for you. It's the best Trek series. A shame you're missing out.
