Same-sex couples have been doing this for years, as I recall, because it bestows on the other partner legal rights to, for instance, make decisions related to health of an incapacitated partner, to inherit, or to have visitation rights, where same-sex marriage or civil-unions are not recognized.

Nothing new.

Stupid move. He'll go to jail, and she walks with 1/3 of the protected assets.

It sounds like he is doing this to avoid giving up assets to a man he might have killed in a car crash.

CSB:

My in-laws were horribly injured by an asshole in California, my father in-law almost died and lost a leg. The douchebag divorced his wife, which is illegal if you are being sued, and got away with it because the Judges were incompetent. He got out of having to pay a whole lot of money for medical bills. He was fairly well off and had better lawyers. My father in-law's medical bills were 1.6 million dollars. People like Goodman are pretty much sociopathic. Luckily my father in-law had a cadillac civil service insurance policy from the old days and they survived financially.

I hope this douchebag loses everything, and why is he not in jail for manslaughter?

Adopting someone wouldn't do nearly any of that. However, a durable power of attorney and a will -- which can be put together for a few hundred bucks -- can easily accomplish all of those things.

Which idiot judge allowed this killer to adopt his 42 year old girlfriend and how much did he benefit from this atrocity???

Because his criminal trial only begins in March this year

I'm no legal expert by any means, but like in bankruptcy court, i would assume the Judge could undo deals that were obviously done to shield assets. There's got to be some JD farker out there that could shed some light on this.

I am aware of that. I am sure he ponied up bail to get out of jail. I hope he loses everything and goes to PMITA prison.

Why allow adult adoptions in the first place? It seems so farking stupid. A person cannot have an actual parent/child relationship with someone they met as an adult, no matter what their deluded mind wants to believe.

"It cannot go unrecognized that he chose to adopt his 42-year-old adult girlfriend as opposed to a needy child."

Well of course not! Getting back door sex from a needy child would just be wrong!

Nah, this guy started with the farking, then did the adoption. This technique is more of the "Reverse-Woody."

This case is ridiculously sad, the guy will probably end up getting off (and probably not just with his "daughter"). The criminal case is completely farked up, strangely the cops did a terrible job of collecting the evidence. The civil case is an uphill battle because all of the local high-profile attorneys have some connection with the guy so the only place the parents could go was an as-seen-on-TV McPractice. And the victim would still be alive if this douche had just picked up the phone and called 911 instead of rushing home to call his attorney. The impact didn't kill the other driver, he drowned in a ditch. Really, really sad.

Easy there, my retirement plan is based on being adopted by some ultra-wealthy old person.

Just kidding. They don't actually have to be old, they just have to be rich and want an adorable middle-aged son.

you are correct. the guy is a full on dickweed, and needs to be put away for life.

Tax laws are set up to screw the successful. If you give your money to your kids slowly over a number of years they don't get triple taxed on it.
