I think there may be a few more primaries to go before he concedes.

2012-02-01 12:08:39 AM
*Ahem*

Former Speaker of the House, Republican Leader, and second in the nation in polling among Republicans, Newt Gingrich.

HE'S not the asshole. He's just an employee (potential). It's his supporters that are the assholes.

High school style BS? In a Republican primary? Say it isn't so!

//OMG. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

2012-02-01 09:48:22 AM
I can't wait until Newt has a public meltdown...

2012-02-01 09:48:42 AM
Does it even matter though? It's just a primary. Is this a thing that candidates always do?

/Newt's an asshole whether he made the call or not, so this doesn't matter to me.

2012-02-01 09:49:58 AM
At least he's consistent in his complete and utter dickishness, unlike that flip-flopper Romney who is only a dick most of the time.

2012-02-01 09:50:09 AM
This is getting good!

FOX News Channel showed some stupid post vote speech by Romney and he didn't even mention Newt, he just made a bunch of dumbass comments about Obama, like he already has the nomination wrapped up.

2012-02-01 09:51:21 AM
Those calls are a stupid tradition anyway. Everyone knows they're insincere bullshiat.

2012-02-01 09:51:57 AM
Does he really have to call every time he loses and congratulate Mitt? Isn't it enough to wait until the final defeat?

PanicMan: Did you really expect anything else?

It works for him with his particular base - fat, ugly, impotent little men who dream of being able to act like utter assholes and get away with it. Newt is their f**king hero, and the more of a dick he acts like, the more they like him - he empowers their sad, futile fantasies of manhood.

2012-02-01 09:55:36 AM
Why should he call and congratulate him? This isn't a farking sports game, you don't have to high five everyone on the other team.

Arkanaut: Does it even matter though? It's just a primary. Is this a thing that candidates always do?

RON PAUL does, and that's all that matters.

Stay classy, [republican presidential candidate].

I'm counting on Newt's narcissism and sociopathic tendencies to keep him in the race until the convention... Mostly for the laughs, but also to completely torpedo the GOP's chance in November.

The GOP does not deserve the presidency (or any power, for that matter) after their behavior the last four years.

Well...

If you were a Republican benefactor, would you contribute money to Newt Gingrich? He had his big break in Florida after a big upset in South Carolina and he collapsed under the weight of his own ego. Why would you bet on a lame horse?

Newt may have the determination to continue on to the bitter end, but charter jets and buses and leased office space and advertisements don't run on determination.

That's what I would do. Act like you won it already. Frankly, he probably has. If he'd gotten 50% instead of 46% it would be game over.

Newt should just flat-out appeal to the Dick vote. Come out and say 'Fark Mitt Romney and his bean counters, and fark any efforts on my part to be his friend, play nice, or live by conventional societal norms that don't allow me to act like I want to act at every moment." I think in this day and age a lot disgruntled, angry people would find him refreshing. Imagine the ads targetting them? "Are you tired of having to look over your shoulder to be sure no ones around before you say the N word? Tired of not being able to call place-kickers in football gay because it offends people? Tired of having to say 'Good morning' to that godless tart who works the front desk at your office with her blouse unbuttoned to the third button? Then vote for me! Do and say as you wish all the time. I may not be a great president, but I'm a perfect asshole!"*

Is it traditionally appropriate to call the victor after you've lost a primary? I mean, sure you won or lost "something," but it's just a little piece of something. There's a reason why football teams don't go out and congratulate "the winner" at half time. Or baseball teams don't offer congratulations to the other team when they are down 3-1 in the third inning.

On Super Tuesday, when multiple states could offers different winners and losers, do campaigns call back and forth based on each state's results, or based on a final tally of all the states?

Of all the Newtist things to call Newt on, this hardly seems to rate highly on the Newtism scale.

Well to be honest, winning Florida isn't exactly something you'd want to be congratulated on, maybe condolences would be more appropriate.

Kind of? I think even Newt would agree that he's the Real Deal.

The text for your ad sounds like it was copped from Anton LeVey, who described Satanism as "Do as thou wilt, not as thou shalt". That should totally piss the Fundies off, but sadly, will probably be more appealing to them.

Of course, the idea of the Devil is still more in keeping with their dogma (if not the Bible) then a lot of Mormon doctrine, so there's that.

I think it's because ostensibly, all candidates are working toward the good of the country, simply with differing ideas of how to do so.

Heh. Sigh.

It is traditional to call and congratulate. It's an empty courtesy, but manners matter. After Romney got that surprise loss of Iowa a week after he was supposed to have won the state, he said fark it and called Santorum to congratulate him anyway, rather than make a circus out of it.

/Romney 2012!
//he probably conceded just to avoid the media attention

It's buying an election when black democrats do it.

Considering that Mitt accused Newt of damn near everything up to raping babies and stomping on puppies I can see how Newt would be pissed at Mitt.

I'm just warming up my OOMA call blocking feature. I'll have to see if I can switch it to a white list for calls.

Well, anyone who cheats on and divorces his sick first wife to marry his mistress, then cheats on and divorces his second wife when she gets sick, to marry his mistress, is an asshole in my book.

/also, the getting head from a woman in his car thing
/and the idea of the death penalty for transporting weed
/and the mind blowing megalomania
/and the "Spanish is the language of the ghetto" comment
/and the "Let me go to the NAACP convention to set those darkies straight" attitude

You would think a casino owner would know a losing bet when he sees one. Must be something ulterior going on there.
