As a former avid, and now casual, Leafs fan. I can say with confidence that there is no team better at blowing a two plus goal lead in the third period over the last decade than the Leafs.

Thought this year was different.

*shrug* guess not.

Every time I come to this city, some guy picks me up at the bus station, takes me to a Leafs game, gets me pissed, and then tries to blow me.

Lol, the best part is the Toronto Sports Networks reaction: "No team has gone a month without allowing a PP goal since the '67 Bruins yadda yadda". Way to look on the bright side boys.

Eh, Flyers lost a tight 1-1 game to the Jets in a shootout last night. Really? Couturier, Giroux, and Jagr all came away without a goal?

C'mon!

Sounds like they're just trying to see the light while they're in a very deep hole.

The Canucks/Hawks game was a good one, Daniel scored a very pretty one in OT. It's nice to see a clean game against rivals.

I miss my NHL center ice. Damn you, suddenlink. The only thing worse than getting no hockey on my television is getting a lot of Penguins games from a regional sports network.

2012-02-01 10:22:01 AM
To be fair to the leafs, the interference call on the first goal was complete nonsense.

/ Of course being the leafs, this would then be a story about how they went up 5-1 and went on to lose.
// Poor leafs.

2012-02-01 10:26:10 AM
Well, they weren't the only team from Ontario to poop their pants last night. Letting in the GW from centre ice is shameful at best. I don't care if the puck skipped off the ice like a stone off a lake. You gotta make that save Mr. Anderson. Though the Sens not getting a PP all game against a team like the Bruins is a joke.
Oh well, at least the Jets won last night. Though they're leaning on Pavelec way too hard.

What penalties did you see? Oh right, the Bruins are a bunch of goons and if there aren't at least 7 power plays against them that's just evidence that the league is in the tank to help them win.

The Bs may have played a clean game last night; I didn't watch that one so I can't say. However calling a team that leads the league in PIM/G 'a bunch of goons' really isn't a huge stretch. Ottawa isn't far behind them though, and takes a TON of minor penalties, so I can't be surprised at how many advantages the Sens gave up.

Meh, the Malkin goal was a kung-fu movie crazy deflection. If Neals shot hadn't hit his shoulder it would have gone into the netting. At least it wasn't from center ice, eh Anderson?

I like the old Waffles headline about Toronto

Toronto Maple Leafs upset that someone threw waffles onto the ice during a game. In other news, the waffles beat the Maple Leafs 7-2

Malkin goal was more or less a fluke - I guess it's sometimes better to be lucky than good - but man, Fluery... He drives me nuts. He gives up four goals then goes on to post some fantastic saves to finish out the game.

Fleury can be very frustrating with his inconsistency and his propensity to make highlight reel saves but let in weak goals, even in the same game.

I watched the end of the game (interspersed with the refs robbing the Penn State men's basketball team) and I just didn't think the Pens were going a very good job of controlling the puck and keeping it in the offensive zone - but in the end they did enough and got lucky.

Eight game win streak right after their six game losing streak. I guess that's how you play your way back into the playoffs. :)

The Sens were begging for penalties all night long. Could be the refs just got sick of it and swallowed their whistles. Bruins may have gotten away with a few, but the Sens dodged a penalty shot in (I think) the 3rd, so they shouldn't complain.

Heh... haven't heard a Ham/Cass joke in a good long while.

Seriously though, the last big game 'Hawks-vs.-'Nucks was Game 7, with that awkward looking flop after a complete defensive breakdown in the face of Toews' relentless checking. Ergo, you should be making flop jokes.

No, you can't call the team chokers. But for Luongo to perform with such varying degrees of ability in games 1, 2, and 5, and 3, 4, and 6, it's hard to refute the claim that he at least coughed forcefully in those Boston games.

/And I'm on your side. When Burrows gloved down that clearing attempt and knuckled the puck past a disbelieving Crawford, that's the loudest I'd screamed in years.

CSB time: I take my Canucks fandom pretty seriously, so obviously I was incredibly stressed going into game 7. Plus, I had a final the next day, so I decided for my mental health I couldn't watch the game on TV. But, I'm obviously keeping an eye on the score online the whole game. So the whole game it's 1-0. Gets into the third, still 1-0. 2 minutes left, Canucks on the PP, still 1-0. I think, "Okay, I can turn it on and watch the end now." I turn the TV on literally at the exact moment that Toews strips Burrows. Ughhhhhhh. I can honestly say that was the angriest I've ever been (but I'm not a super angry dude normally.) I think my fiancee thought I was permanently broken.

Anyways, I had to turn on some video games to un-stress, until my buddy texted me to say it was over. So I missed one of the best goals in Canucks history, but I honestly think it was worth it. I'm not sure I could have handled the Hawks PP in overtime.

Yeah, that was a terrible meltdown, but realistically the 2nd and 3rd goals should never have happened. 2nd one they blew the whistle, and replay show the puck in the net later. No proof the puck was in the net during play. You can't see it cross the line. Then the third goal the refs swallowed their whistles. Preds got 10 whacks at it after Harding had it covered.

But really, if the Wild hadn't stopped playing the last 10 minutes, it wouldn't have mattered.
