Looks like the Heinlein Society is not doing well.

On Sunday, I went to the NH Authors Series (new window) to hear James Patrick Kelly speak. Nice guy. His daughter is friends with my coworker.

He and I have stories in the same NH horror themed anthology, Live Free or Undead, and might be appearing together in a NH sci-fi themed anthology.

Just because this is pretty much the perfect thread: if you've never heard of Connie Willis, you should give one of her novels a try. To Say Nothing of the Dog, perhaps. She's one of the most award winning science fiction authors ever, up there with LeGuin and Ellison.

She's got a massive number of awards, and still most people have never heard of her.

No one saw this before? It's been on the Internet a decade.

It's so inclusive, it even includes me.

SphericalTime: Connie Willis

Bellwether is a good intro book to her work.

I saw where she won the Hugo AND Nebula. Is Blackout/All Clear a good place to start with her work?

They're good but The Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog feature some of the same characters/concepts. There may be a short story in there too.

Cool and thanks! I'm still sorting through all the Fark recommendations from before. I'll have to add her to my book list.

That's the first book of hers that I read and I loved it.

She's done that twice in novels, and lots more times with shorter fiction. :)

_Don't_ start with Doomsday Book. It's utterly brilliant, but Charlie Stross himself says (and I agree) that it's _not_ where you should try to get into her work.
