Heat rises, and the Republican primaries can't be that well insulated, so I'm just it's just a result of the hot air all going up to Canada.

At least it's not the normal BS about global warming causing colder winters.

That frozen monkey balls two week span in mid January was enough for me. I could live without winter for a while longer yet.

This has been the winter trend around here for at least the last 20 years. I certainly don't mind the milder winters. The 8 springs (counted as a complete snow melt off, followed by tshirt and shorts weather for at least three days, followed by a snowfall) that stretched from mid-March until mid-June kinda pissed me off. Ball season was a write off.

Environment Canada got a forecast wrong?

Well. I'll be. I'd never thought I'd see the day when...some felt the need to actually point that out.

Yeah, I am sure they're real broken up over that

Don't tell that to people in Alaska. Those yokels actually think it's -36° outside.

Also one of the driest winters on record, oh wait that was last year.

2012-01-31 10:15:38 PM
Well less winter means less snow and a lot of people rely on snowpack for their water.

Droughts this summer?

It hit like -20 to -30 for maybe 3 days this month, then just ended and back up to the tshirt weather -5 to -10 area. I think I wore a winter coat once. It's bullshiat. I like the cold, or at least I've convinced myself of that until this point.

2012-01-31 10:17:12 PM
Texas hasn't had one, either. Granted, it's Texas, so it's not like we get blizzards every other day.

Still, I went for a walk today in shorts and a tank top. It's only on noteworthy days that I bother with a jacket.

I'm in the northern US and it was 57 degrees today. Unfarkingreal!

Thinking about going to work for them after graduation. On one hand, they need all the help they can get; on the other, they need all the help they can get.

Supposed to be 60 in the Boston area tomorrow. Quite the change from a year go, when we had 4 feet of snow in the yard...

Did everyone forget about February? The worst month of the winter?

2012-01-31 10:21:44 PM
Snow came down like crazy the day before and yesterday, and then today it went up to nearly 10 degrees and it all melted again. Hooray for climate change.

/and no, I have no idea what 10 degrees in Celsius translates into for you weirdos still using voodoo math

Here in Kansas we've had like one cold snap that lasted about a week, where temps got into the teens in the mornings, and that's been it. Couple dustings of snow depending on where you live but nothing to speak of. 40's and 50's have been the norm; it was 65 today. I haven't heard any official predictions yet but unless it's a wet spring, wheat harvest around here is going to be terrible.

I live in MN, and haven't had a winter either. Jeebus, 50f in Dec. 40f highs in Jan going into Feb.

54 here in Chicago

2012-01-31 10:24:09 PM
I'm in northern MN and I've had to shovel twice. Both times it was about 3 inches of snow. We only got enough to cover the grass completely about 2 weeks ago. Great for the ice fishermen, bad for the snowmobilers.

2012-01-31 10:24:49 PM
We had one here, but it only lasted two days instead of five months. There have been at least twenty days this month where I could go outside quite comfortably in a t-shirt. Normally if you do that in Edmonton in Januarly odds are good you're dead in half an hour.

2012-01-31 10:26:08 PM
Omahawg: yes, drought this summer. just watch and wait while texas burns again.

Actually, we just had 9 inches of rain fall here in Fort Worth with more rain on the way by the weekend. We're making up for the drought quite nicely.

I live near Memphis, TN and this has been a mild winter so far. 365 days ago it wasn't so mild. So I'm declaring GLOBAL FLUCKING WARMING STARTING NOW!!!

2012-01-31 10:27:02 PM
Florida hasn't had much of a.winter either... I think you're on to something, subby. You diabolical genius you.

2012-01-31 10:27:18 PM
Not much of a winter here in Michigan either. Was cold as fark for about a week total so far this season. But, there's still another month of winter left, plenty of time to make up for it with a good ice storm like we saw last year.

Us either. It's not supposed to be above freezing for days at a time in January, in Montana, at 6000 feet. No snow either. Just bleh.

It's a pain in the ass. I bought new snowsnoes, and there really hasn't been enough snow to use them. It snows less than 6", then rains and melts it all. A few winters ago I stepped off my old snowsnoes and went in up to my crotch.

(I was taking a piss.)

Thisbymaster: Did everyone forget about February? The worst month of the winter?

Shut your whore mouth.

2012-01-31 10:28:10 PM
Why is the headline in the past tense, Subby? We have about ten more weeks before winter is done.

2012-01-31 10:28:11 PM
Neither does Texas. It will be in the 60's from the first minute of February, for gawd's sake. I was born a SoCal girl but lived more than half my life in TX...I know what is cold to me. This is so not. It is gonna be a hot summer of 2013. Texas.

2012-01-31 10:29:25 PM
Just out of curiosity, what's happening where the jet stream actually *is*, as opposed to where it usually is. Is it a case of it's always so cold there that it doesn't make a difference, or is it too cold for those areas to get their normal snowball or are they drowning under the stuff or what?

Also, I read somewhere that some Europe-to-North America flights are burning extra fuel because of headwinds over their routes. Are west-to-east flights burning less fuel or do they go under anyways or what?

In Canada, getting a kick...

Seriously though, some of the bulb plants in my flower garden started sprouting this week. In January. In Canada. While it'd be cool to have one hell of a long growing season, I would not want to know what July will be like if January is regularly 15°C above the usual (roughly 17° F above seasonal for you yanks).. if that happened in July we'd have 45°C/113°F days... without accounting for the humidity o.O

2012-01-31 10:30:08 PM
you realize there's still 2 months of winter left? We're not even to the midpoint yet.
