People watch the halftime shows?

Okay, serious question:

The Super Bowl halftime show producers were taking a lot of crap for constantly putting out geriatric acts like Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, McCartney, The Who, etc., and generally being way out of touch with modern life. So last year in response they gave us The Black Eyed Peas. Say what you want about the Black Eyed Peas, but it made sense because they were (and possibly still are) the hottest musical act in the world, and the show got some pretty nice reviews.

So what do they do this year? They go right back to the geriatric route by throwing Madonna out there about 20 years too late. Can I safely assume next year will feature KISS and the year after will feature The Eagles?

I don't get it.

Not a Modonna fan, but she'll be better than seeing Usher lip sync on stage

Oh, there'll be lip syncing and Auto-Tuning galore on Sunday. Elton John gave an interview because he's in a Super Bowl commercial and his advice: lip sync really well. Having played in bands, being able to hear yourself on stage is top priority and they have something like 8 minutes to get the stage set up, 12 minutes to perform, 8 minutes to tear down the stage. That's insane.

As long as she does Ray of Light, I'll be cool.

AC/DC would be the best halftime show ever. They are not the best band in the world, but nobody would rock the halftime show like they would.

This season of the office has been pretty bad, but it has yielded one gem (which is both funny and true making it the best kind of true).

Well, to be fair, modern Madonna getting naked would cause many of us to puke out our first half beers and the country would be much more productive the next day. She could actually help the economy by showing some skin.

Forget whether the band/singer/act is new or old, has there been a good Super Bowl halftime show, of any kind, in recent memory?

I'll give Prince credit for not being awful, and the fact that it was actually raining during "Purple Rain", but other than that, what do we have?

Ever since the year of Janet Jackson's tit they have no idea what they want for a halftime show. They should just re-invite Prince because he's the last one who's done a credible halftime show. The Who was just awful. The Boss was okay. Tom Petty was meh.

You only have 20 minutes or so for halftime. How good of a show can you put on? That's why I wish the Ramones were around, their songs are so short I'm sure they could play two of their albums in 20 minutes.

The great thing about having a rooting interest in the Super Bowl is that the halftime show is a perfect time to go have a cigarette and throw up because my stomach will have been in knots for anywhere from 24-48 hours.

I have never watched a half-time show. Or a Super Bowl. In fact, despite having lived in the US for almost 50 years, I have never watched a football game on TV.

So I thought it would be appropriate for me to post in this thread.

AC/DC, Beastie Boys, KISS, or another Prince show. Otherwise, take your Q-ratings and your focus groups and shove the ream of paper up your ass, network execs.

I'm going to be airing the Puppy Bowl during halftime. At least that has some quality to it.

That's nice, Madonna, but since 2008, my Super Bowl Halftime Show consisted of a channel flip to Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl.

I saw the Cougar in Indiana (Terre Haute) about 7 years ago now. I'm not from Indiana so I didn't understand his significance to the area. My buddy who brought me to the show kept claiming that he (JCM) could have sex with any woman in the arena that he wanted. Cougar danced like he believed the aforementioned statement; like he was cougar (not cougar mellencamp) hunting. Based on that show I would bet serious money that the Cougar, if given the opportunity, would put his crotch in anything that moves, including the camera.

Can we get Rick Astley for next year?

I'll second the comment about being thankful that my team is playing so halftime will be all about catching my breath and stretching my legs.

And I've been saying for years that the Super Bowl halftime show should be all about dogs chasing frisbees. If you can get a monkey to ride the dogs while they chase frisbees that would be gravy. Just look at how many people switch over to the Puppy Bowl and you'll see I'm on to something.

I miss the days of alternative halftime shows, such as In Living Color. They weren't great but they were still better than the regular show. Or why not have something other than music? Let Robbie Maddison jump over the stadium on a unicycle or something.
