Vanity Fair ha ans interesting article on Corzine this month. According to it, Corzine's ex-wife got somewhere in the neighborhood of 300M + their Hamptons mansion. After the divorce was finalized, she turned around and sold it for 44M to an old rival of his at Goldman (who had left and formed his own company) and this new guy tore the mother down. It's good to be an EX Mrs. Corzine. Also to be a formally scorned hedge-fund manager. LMAO.

Later, Corzine admitted he could not account for the $1.2 billion.

Damn. I'd almost guess you would actually have to try to lose track of that much money.

You know, you really can't defend unlimited campaign contributions one day and denounce them the next. It makes people think you're a hypocritical little fark.

Oops, that wasn't supposed to be a quote at you. Phones are bad for that if you were going to comment on someone and then changed your mind.

Ah far as unlimited contributions go, this one has the double bonus of being A) Not a secret and B) Not going to an evangelical. But yeah, it's stupid.

He didn't make an unlimited campaign contribution. John Corzine is a bundler. He gets other people to donate the legal maximum (which is, by definition, not an unlimited campaign contribution).

I figure anyone doing that much work is donating more to a PAC.

If you remember the two stories from Massachusetts a couple months ago about the overpaid housing authority boss and the politician who wrecked his car, they turned out to be related. Housing guy was a fundraiser bundling donations from his city, including from his employees. That's a possible Hatch Act violation and almost certainly a violation of state election law because he coerced employees into making cash donations to avoid records. Lt. Governor Murray, the beneficiary of these crimes, was worried when he saw his friend and co-conspirator going down. He couldn't sleep. He went out for a drive instead. Best spin on the story is, he hit black ice at 75 mph, slammed on the gas instead of the brake, and went off the road at 90-100 mph.

Hey, who are we to tell a living, breathing corporation what they can or cannot do with their money? If Romney wants to buy a company and gut it to suck the money out of it, someone else can buy a company and gut it to give the money to Obama.

there is no difference.

CaptainCliche: Congratulations Submitter, you found out where 0.0416667 percent of that money went!

Not really. Corzine was a bundler as even the article mentions (at the bottom of course). The money he raised came from other people who donated into the campaign fund.

Misquote aside... THIS. This kind of crap is bad for politics in general, and all politicians are doing it. We've let a system be set up where they all pretty much have to.

Cracks at the expense of the "Weakly Standard" don't magically change it to "no big whoop" just because this is a story about the Obama campaign, and not a Republican. I'm sick of Republicans being at the mercy of big corporate donors, but that is no reason to give Democrats a pass for it.

We could really use a constitutional amendment and some publicly funded campaigns. Take the massive, sickening piles of private cash out of the equation. Then maybe they'll have more to "job creator" with. Better than some lousy temporary payroll tax cut so they can not hire employees that they don't have demand for.

2012-01-31 07:21:31 PM
Big money makes the political system go.

Unfortunately, big money is often attached to arseholes.

Wonder that tax rate his secretary pays. That seems more relevant.
