I haven't gotten to play MW3 or BF3 yet. I've like the previous versions of each though. Anyone want to give me the pros and cons of each?

To be honest, BF3 is a clusterfark of instant death too until you get used to the maps. Then it's just a clusterfark of slightly delayed death.

they both have obnoxious mouth-breathers. one is cookie-cutter garbage. the other is less cookie-cutter, but requires EA origin.

But yeah, I'm a big damn sucker for tilt shift stuff. This is awesome.

mw3 is more like tag, battlefield 3 is hide and seek.

This is the simplest way to describe it.

COD = Arcadey fun like all the others were. Perks, ridiculous SP stunts etc.
BF3 = War Simulator. You die in 1-5 shots (usually in the 2/3 range), suppression fire effect, classes, on PC you get 64 player maps (not sure if on console), ridiculous vehicles and a TON of unlocks/attachments. It does have some negatives, like stacked teams in conquest suck, etc. There are some minor issues but I think it has longer lasting appeal.

pudding7: BF3 is a bit less "twitchy" than CoD, if you want it to be. I love being a sniper, and BF3 has the maps and gameplay to pull it off well. It's just a touch slower pace than CoD, with better maps and vehicles.

With BF3 depending on which type of match you play (conquest vs. team deathmatch, for example), and what map, what class, etc., some matches are great even though you only got 3 kills, other matches you'll rack up 30 kills as a gunner in an attack chopper.

That's always been my absolute favorite thing about BF compared to CoD. You can actually do well and be a credit to your team without scoring a single kill...or depending what you do, without even firing a single shot. Even CoD's objective modes are glorified team deathmatches. Some of my absolute best, and most memorable, BF performances have been ferrying players around and fixing up vehicles as an engineer, or spotting and calling artillery as a scout.

I love that reaction stupid players have when they get mad that your K/D ratio or whatever is poor, yet you're still somehow topping the leaderboards.

Reality isn't necessarily fun. The PR guys took it too far. I'm glad you liked it, but there's a reason why it was a small community. But hey, it gives you a chance to feel superior to ppl playing kiddie games, as your post proves, and I get the feeling that's a big part of the allure.

Meh, If I wanted my shooter to be that realistic I'd just play the one the army provides for free.

You keep using the past tense. PR is still a going concern.

My post was not about superiority, it was about you not making the most of the experience and coming away from it with a skewed opinion. Lone-wolfing in PR is a recipe for disappointment. The game just doesn't support that kind of play. Which is fine, as there are plenty of other games out there that do.

The allure of PR is the necessity of sound strategies and tactics, not boosting KDR.

I disagree with the initial assumption that BF3 is somehow cool to begin with.

I'm with Yahtzee when it comes to shooters like BF3. I can only play the same xenophobic mass murder simulator so many times before I have to start questioning why I keep buying the same goddamn game over and over. The entire military FPS genre is getting as bad as those freakin' Madden games.

I like the concept, just not enough to justify buying more than one quality example of the paradigm...

Does anyone know if they are even making a new Star Wars Battlefront? I played the shiat out of the first 2 and just recently discovered a Lord of the Rings battlefront type game on XBLA that is awesomely fun. You can drive an Ent!

Hey, you aren't supposed to be right! Want to know what is even better? Jihad transport helicopters. Load it up with C4, hover above a tank and then explode. No one ever sees it coming.

/Don't do it with other people in the helicopter though, for some reason they don't find it as amusing.

I'm all for buying both games because they're a good compliment to each other, but I still didn't like MW3 very much. Part of the reason is that all of my buds who play CoD never picked the game up because they kept hearing bad things about it, and the other part is that there are bad things about it.

I'm sticking with Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops as my counterparts to Battlefield 3. Between those games, I'm all set on competitive shooters, but Battlefield 3 is definitely my favorite. I do have to complain about the lack of ability to quit between rounds, the lack of ability to customize classes between rounds, the lack of ability to move in parties of greater than four, the lack of team balancing in general, and so on. The game isn't perfect, but it's pretty awesome.
