Weren't llamas part of an exotic animal scheme from the 90's, and nobody really likes the damned things but think they can get good money for the llama wool? You know, good money until they balance the books and realize they've made $5/hr.

I once had to coordinate the liquidation of a herd of alpacas as pardon of a Chapter 7 proceeding. It was really awful--the guy's kids treated them like pets, and they kept sending me letters asking me not to take their friends away...

...it was roughly this time that I decided to stop working for lawyers. Ugh.

Long story short:
Somebody chased a loose llama into my horse pasture and I had to help catch it.
Even though I was kinda scared (how many llamas have you handled?), I ended up wrapping an arm around its neck and holding it in a corner until someone put a halter on it.
What really struck me was that I thought the thing would stink like a goat. Turns out it barely had any scent at all.

How exactly do you liquidate a llama? Is there a lot of yelling involved?

The odd thing is, there are a lot of farms around central Iowa raising llamas.

There's a guy on the far south side of Des Moines with a herd of elk and buffalo. Just south of Des Moines, in Warren County, there's a guy with llamas and a large number of peacocks.

Up in Ames, there's a professor of agronomy at Iowa State who raises llamas, alpacas and guanacos (sp?). A few years ago, some of them got loose and sauntered over to the Ames High School football field during a night game. They had to suspend the game for a bit to round them up. It went rather quickly, as the prof was one of the referees.
