Good luck, those Freepers are a hard group to troll. They ZOT any thing outside their echo chamber

There have long been reports of people who decline to be nominated for federal judicial appointments because that means going before the Senate Judiciary Committee to have lies about their past spread nationwide, and the good reputation built up over a lifetime destroyed by politicians who could not care less about the truth.

The same practices may well have something to do with the public's dissatisfaction with the current crop of candidates in this year's primaries -- and in previous years' primaries. Character assassination is just another form of voter fraud.

When the GOP character assasination machine is going after a Democrat it is perfectly fine with the author. Yet when it turns inward and attacks one of its own who Thomas Sowell supports, he turns into an adament fact checker and it is suddenly voter fraud. Cry me a river dude.

What gets me is the true political "conservative" and the true "social conservative" in the race, Paul and Santorum, are the bottom dwellers despite walking the walk in their lives. Meanwhile the political conservatives are banding behind Romney and the social conservatives behind Newt. Two people's whose past actions are the opposite of what their backers primarily stand for.

On a side note, the resident conservative "intellectual" at work just replaced his "Libertarian" sticker on his car with a "Newt 2012" one. Yeah, go figure. It's almost like many "conservatives" hid behind the "Libertarian" banner to mask their previous support for Bush.

The problem with this cycle is that someone "moderate" will still get the nomination. And then when Rommney does lose against Obama it will only give the crazies more justification to say "We only win from the right!"

If you're a Dem, go register as a Rep and vote for Gingrich in the primary. Then Obama in the general. Profit.

Yeah, but Soros doesn't want to rule over Americans like the Koches do.

Old Stephen Colbert invented a time machine, came back, lived a second life as the other Koch brother in order to provide Colbert Prime with the comedy career he always wanted.

Book it, done.

czei: So dragging the entire country through impeachment hearings because the president was having an affair with a staffer at the very same time Newt was having an affair with a staffer twenty years his junior isn't an issue with these people? If Newt would force that debacle on the country when he was speaker imagine what he would do as president!

The impeachment was because he lied to a grand jury about it, not for the affair itself.

...or as so they'd want you to believe.

Can someone please explain to me who "The Republican Establishment™" is?

If it isn't people like Newt Gingrich or the pundits at Townhall and NRO, who is it?

I'm guessing they're the polar opposite of the guys running the "homosexual agenda". Same dark smoke-filled rooms, different days.

2012-01-31 06:30:10 PM
The Republican establishment are the moneyed power players in the GOP. They're the minority of Republicans who are actually fiscally right-wing, but less socially right-wing. These are the people who devise the strategy to exploit socially conservative voters to get Republicans elected so that they can then implement tax cuts and corporate giveaways, all the while never really delivering on socially conservative policy.

In short, Mitt Romney, and his campaign financiers are the Republican establishment.

I should add, too, that certain ostensibly socially conservative religious leaders form part of the establishment too. These are the people who understand the establishment's strategy, and go along with it.

All the establishment knows it would be political suicide to try and win the election this year. They did their job in the midterm and got enough radical right wingers to block any Obama legislation, so they can keep blaming him for all the problems and keep winning local elections.

Because otherwise if they take the Presidency, the world can see once again 4 more years of Reagan and Bush policies that collapse the middle class and keep condensing wealth to the few. They have no real plan to get out of the bad economy their policies created except more of the same. But they can't let their party see that, it's very embarrassing that their entire foundation is based on lies and public relations campaigns.

CBS News just reported that Romney's favorability among independents is now 23%.

Mittens now shares Newt's weakness. But has none of Newt's strengths.

It really doesn't matter whether the Republicans nominate Tweedle-Dee or Tweedle-Dumb.

The Democrats always have plans, unlike the other side who can only regurgitate the same tired phrases like tax cuts and lower regulation. Clinton had one, FDR had one, Obama had one. Republicans tried at every turn to stop them. During Obama's Presidency, Republicans set records for number of filibusters, blocked appointments, and laws held in committee. What legislated passed was watered down full of handouts to Republican lawmakers. If Obama was king, like Bush, the economy would be humming again. That's what Democrats get for not allowing a terrorist attack and taking advantage of it to push through everything you want.
