Through a little Googling we see that he's apparently the Current keyboardist for Blue Oyster Cult.

So a professional guy with talent and the income to spend on good equipment made a good video.

Worth watching.

He appears to use it; I'd say he has the right amount. He isn't even a hobbyist... this is his job.

That was almost as good as the Muppets cover!

I'd also like to see this kid do it (a capella with electronically modified vocals simulating all of the instruments, as is his specialty).

Just a little practice and he could be up there with beiber

It's amazing that one guy is able to recreate the entire song with such great quality. Here's some wikipedia info about the original song:

May, Mercury, and Taylor reportedly sang their vocal parts continually for ten to twelve hours a day.[6] The entire piece took three weeks to record, and in some sections featured 180 separate overdubs.[11] Since the studios of the time only offered 24-track analogue tape, it was necessary for the three to overdub themselves many times and "bounce" these down to successive sub-mixes. In the end, eighth-generation tapes were used.[1] The various sections of tape containing the desired submixes had to be spliced (cut with razor blades and assembled in the correct sequence using adhesive tape). May recalled placing a tape in front of the light and being able to see through it, as they had been recording so intensely

Apparently it was one of the most expensive singles made. And this chubby guy was able to duplicate it in his house with a handful of instruments and a computer.

He didn't have to craft it, though, just reproduce it. No time spent deciding what harmony to construct, guitar tone to crank up, drum tuning to use... just careful reproduction. No word on how much time that took... since a clean production still looks like a solid 10-to-16 part affair.

And he's good... imagine trying to do it when you aren't freaking skilled!

Don't forget that modern recording equipment makes all this incredibly easier as well.

Not take to take anything away from this guy's talent, it is obvious he is good, but I wonder what this sounds like without the auto-tune. I heard some auto-tune in parts. Does that matter? I am not sure. But like photoshop on models and too much CGI in movies, it takes something away for me.

Here is a version of the lead vocal that the guy posted without processing. I like it so much more. I prefer the rawness. A little reverb would do wonders though. He states it is just the lead, but it is obviously doubled in places.

He, like the original recording, used phaser on the vocals at the beginning. You are probably right about the autotune; considering he wasn't about to get paid for the repeated takes I'd have cheated after a while, too.

Why have several comments praising this guy for his talents also included pot shots at his weight? I don't get it.

Ya know, when I watch stuff like this I think: Damn, I wish I had that guy's talent and ability. But then it occurs to me that he probably puts in obscene time, effort and energy to achieve that level of skill -- and then I think, I don't have time for that.

The reality is he uses his free time waaaay better than I do. I wouldn't be on Fark right now if I did.

ProTip I learned many years ago: Your own voice will always harmonise with itself. Meaning, if you track your own voice, and assuming you're a reasonably good singer to begin with, it will sound great.

Now, because I accidentally got in a little dustup over this remark a couple years ago year, I feel I should clarify: By 'harmonise' I obviously do not mean that your voice will magically fall into the right specific harmonic intervals. That's obviously absurd. What I mean is that unlike what happens when different voices blend, your own voice over itself will be complementary in timbre, and suffer much less of the noisy interference that occurs between different people's voices.

As others have said, I'm not usually impressed by this youtube trick. But this guy's good. And he seems to be genuine and fun guy to be around...genuinely loves what he does. His other videos are pretty good, and the stuff he's written, while terminally cheesy, is at the very least very well done.

I mean, Jebus it's cheesy. But I can give it a bit of a pass for being tight, and the guys all look as if they're just enjoying the shiate out of themselves.

You're blurring "made" versus "duplicate".

It took a brazillion years before man was able to make the interpretation of the mass-energy equivalence as a fundamental principle that follows from the relativistic symmetries of space and time.

Heck, now that's easy to duplicate...

E = mc2

There, I just did it.

/Not to take anything away from the guy. Seriously talented.

Wow. He's got a great voice. And it's funny that a song that's what, 35 years old still has appeal. Makes you wonder what the current crop of processed synth auto tune crap Beiberettes will be doing in 35 years?

"Blame it on the Rain" is 23 years old
"Hangin' Tough" is also 23 years old
"Never Gonna Give You Up" is 25
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is 26
"Mickey" (as in 'oh Mickey you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind') is 30
"Y.M.C.A" is 34
"Kung Fu Fighting" is 38

Pop songs stick around for just as long as rock songs.
