Silly people overreacting. It takes a fair amount of car control and ability to do that. If he's only provisional then he's clearly a fast learner and a better driver than most people out there, and better than 100% of people driving vans. I keep seeing people drive into oncoming traffic to try and squeeze one car ahead, (there's a keep clear gap, impatient people get angry when decent people keep it clear). I can't fathom that level of stupidity, but these people get to keep driving, no matter how many near misses I see every week.

I would be in favour of rescinding all drivers licenses and increasing the difficulty of the tests 10 fold, and the written part of the test is one simple question. "Do you enjoy driving?" If the answer is no then we won't waste time and money even giving you a test. If you don't like something you can't be any good at it, and will take stupid risks to finish your journey 5 seconds sooner. Of course that would only work so long as word doesn't get out that that's on the test. So don't tell anyone!

I'm a little confused... he didn't hurt anyone, hell he didn't even appear to endanger anyone.

Why would he lose his license for life?

He loses his car forever, because governments down under like taking cars. He loses his license until they decide to give it back.

FTFA - eight dangerous driving charges

Is that one for each illegal u-turn? It seems that even, worldwide, cops are just dicks.

2012-01-31 01:15:30 PM
Can someone translate that story into English?

2012-01-31 01:18:08 PM
Police watch Fark. Ive run across one for sure, another I suspect, in my mailing adventures that arise from certain threads.

2012-01-31 01:18:19 PM
No the police don't monitor Youtube, but it only takes one person who knows you to report it.

2012-01-31 01:18:48 PM
You know, if you stopped selling Falcons and Commodores in Australia I'll bet about 95% of all traffic problems would spontaneously resolve within the next few years.

abhorrent1: What's a hoon?

A chav if you're in Britain, a wigger or hick if you're in the U.S.

Basically, one of those stupid kids who can't work a belt, speaks like they were raised in a circus cage and runs about generally acting about five times tougher than they really are.

To get upset over the burnouts in the first part of the video seems kind of tacky. It's doing it on some back country road and I couldn't even spot a house. However as the video goes on he upgrades roads that show signs of heavier use, so fark him and take his keys away.

/kind of would have been funny to see a road train wtfpwn him in the opening scene

2012-01-31 01:25:49 PM
Skills. I use to do that... but in a parking lot, not a public road. Course back then we didn't have the intertubes cept for bbs gif porn and what not.

/ok sometimes on the road... but we were not high.
//mostly not high

I seriously can't believe that warranted anything more than an officer going by his house and giving him a stern lecture. Do other people even use those roads? What the hell else do they have to do on a Saturday night?

That's gotta be one of the dumbest damn things I've read in a while, and I'm on Fark almost every day.

So if the roads are clear, you can do anything you want? BRB , going to see if my car can hit 150.

He was driving a go cart. The challenge with those is to keep FROM doing a donut on every corner turn.

9beers: So if the roads are clear, you can do anything you want? BRB , going to see if my car can hit 150.

I think this is an important point. You can't just do whatever you want just because no one is around.

That said, there's also the factor of necessary force. It's pretty crazy to me that they want to "permanently forfeit" his car for this. As another poster said:

i'm intellectual and stuff: I seriously can't believe that warranted anything more than an officer going by his house and giving him a stern lecture.

One thing about the Aussies - they are pretty adamant about enforcing their road rules. These guys may be out in the middle of nowhere until a family comes driving that back road and gets wiped out. More to the point though, if you think these guys are doing this only in isolated spots, then you need to rethink your idea of idiots. An idiot is an idiot no matter where they are.

You can debate the Australian laws as being over the top, but the key point is that they enforce them. The biggest car accidents I have ever seen have all been in Australia. The kind of accident no one survives and it is difficult to determine the color of the car involved let alone make and model.

I have seen way more dangerous driving then that on the 'net. Seriously, we biatch about what wimps todays kids are, then break their stones for something as cheesy as that stunt. His Great grandpa was 'prolly buzzing the tower in a 1000 hp P47 for farks sake.....

doing some donuts on an deserted highway is apparently a big deal in Australia?

probably not the smartest idea to post the video, but I cant imagine anyone would expect those sort of consequences.

Presumably one generates more revenue for the police? I don't know either, I'm just guessing.

If memory serves that wouldn't work here in America because internet product of any sort is only permissible in court as circumstantial evidence.

To the best drivers, cars are toys on a closed course. I agree that cars are not toys on the highway.

How does this constitute valid evidence against him? Which officer will testify against him at the trial? This is bullshiat if there was no officer at the scene of the crime.

This should teach him a lesson, at the age of 22. Take his car, take away his ability to drive a car to any work, and cast him as a criminal.

/Rules are rules, sorry about the rest of your life.

Well, my driving video has more felonies than a weekend at Charlie Sheens place.

But one of my lookouts was a local cop, I think he would be in more trouble than me..
