The sad thing is that unless these children show signs of physical abuse, their mother will eventually regain custody of them and the verbal/emotional abuse will continue.

Emotional/verbal abuse is difficult to prove in a court of law, but it can have ongoing effects to a child's mind that will stay with them the rest of their life.

That poor parent. What did that monstrous kid do to her?

My parents used to threaten that all of the time: "If you two don't shut up back there I'm going to stop this car and you can walk home!". They did to once too. Granted it was only a 10 minute walk home at best with only two residential streets to cross that we had walked before (I was about 8 or so) but it sure made us keep our mouths shut (for awhile) so I can see the temptation to do it.

But not with a 3 and 5 year old in any type of a neighborhood, not even at the corner of your own block.
