Abortion is going to be illegal soon in VA, well maybe not illegal but good luck finding a place to have it done. They just passed an asinine law saying that the small clinics that perform abortions must have super wide aisles like hospitals do. They are small buildings, it's impossible. So they are all having to shut down. Not a big deal if you live in NoVa like I do. You can always cross the river to super liberal DC or Maryland, but for the rest of the VA you are screwed if you don't have the money to travel hundreds of miles and back. We have such a backwards state.

Conservatives want a government so small it can be forcibly inserted into one's bodily orifices.

2012-01-30 04:24:34 PM
Sen. Janet D. Howell, D-Fairfax proposed an amendment -- that any man seeking prescription medication for erectile dysfunction must first submit to a digital rectal exam and cardiac stress test.

See, this is a governmental intrusion that actually makes sense. Before a doctor give some guy viagra, it just makes sense to make sure it's not going to explode his heart. And that he's not getting erections with his wife because he just became gay.

They never wanted small government. They want it as big as it can be but only if THEY'RE in charge. It's not fair if the other side gets power.

Of course it failed, no man older than 40 doesn't want to be told that they can't be a 20 year old jackrabbiatchasing their wife/girlfriend/female around drooling like the horny bastards they are.

It would not be dignified.

That was Northern Virginia.

The rest of the state was flinging their feces at the ballot hoping some of it splattered in the McCain/Palin box.

Here's what I don't understand about laws like this.. Aside from the ability to force a person to have medical *coverage*, how can the government force anyone to have medical *care*? I mean, anyone can decline medical care pretty much unless they are deemed incompetent, right? If I'm in a car accident and I get mangled, as long as I am conscious and alert, I can tell the paramedics to fark off (not that I would). So how is it the government can mandate unnecessary procedures? How do laws/rules like this get written in such a way that a patient loses their right to opt out?

Seems like a lot of states are trying this strategy.

Waiting for the Supreme Court to smack some of these down, since imposing onerous regulations that have the de facto effect of rendering a legal service non-existent or impossible to access, is functionally and effectively the same thing as banning it out-right.

In a perfect world, any legislation dealing with abortions -- and any other reproductive issues that exclusively impact women's health -- would be written by and voted upon by female politicians only.

It's nice to see some Democrats finally getting a sense of humor and fighting fire with fire. Like his colleague in Indiana who proposed that lawmakers be given drug tests along with welfare recipients, I like the cut of this guy's jib.

I wouldn't suggest taking any abortion related cases in front of the Supreme Court these days if you are pro-abortion.

Everyone's heard the comments that republicans only care about kids before they're born, and afterwords they're nothing more than parasites on the public teat - and then wonder how those two arguments can coexist. Well, this week I found the biblical basis for that.

Back in Genesis, Sarah convinced Abraham that he needed to sex up her slave Hagar because Sarah couldn't have kids. As a bonus, Hagar's consent is never mentioned or even seems to be considered, so it's pretty obvious that she was raped - at least by current legal standards. However, as soon as Sarah has her own kid and realizes that Ishmael just might be entitled to some kind of inheritance or support, she pressures Abraham into kicking Hagar and the son out into the desert without even enough supplies to live on.

See - forcing rape victims to have the kid and them telling them to fark off and fend for themselves is A-OK by God!

That's my local Republican congressweasels, hard at work reducing the reach of government, reducing regulation, helping small businesses, and LEGISLATING THE farkING DOCTOR/PATIENT RELATIONSHIP. farking retards.

I've noticed lately that my rightie friends and neighbors here in NoVa have pretty much self-selected into two camps: there's the ones who still have the "Palin/McCain 2008" stickers on their oversized, shiny-as-the-day-they-bought-them pickups that they commute to Tyson's Corner in; and there's the ones that are so embarrassed by what their party has become that they don't even describe themselves as Republican any more.

2012-01-30 04:41:31 PM
While I appreciate the satirical value of such an ammendment, government really has no business legislating healthcare decisions. Period. I realize a couple of them are doctors, but by and large politicians don't have the sense not to shiat in their own water.

Do darts and a dart board come with the ultrasound picture?

In case of the 'paint a nursery' legislation, I'd paint mine black, with bright red faux blood dripping down the walls.

Anything to really freak out these dick wads

That's nothing. Kansas passed a law that regulated it's three abortion clinics. The temperature in one part of the building has to be 68 and 73, and in another part between 70 and 75. Along with various requirements on the size of closets.

I am the only one who thinks these sorts of laws seem a lot like the substantive civil rights restrictions of Jim Crow, like the Poll Tax and Literacy Tests? I wonder how far a constitutional challenge to these sorts of laws would get.

If you suffer from any medical condition and are in favor of these laws, are you ok with a group of legislators saying:

You must jump through outrageous hoops to get you treatment/care?

Insurance no longer can cover the cost of your treatment/care?

Your provider must do certain things that aren't medically necessary before giving you treatment/care?

Your provider must establish themselves in a building with asinine codes for the simple fact that they provide care/treatment for your medical condition?

You must obtain X amount of hours of 'crisis counseling' before your treatment can be performed?

The governor of your state has a right to poke their noses into your medical records to see if you received treatment?
**********************

If you say no to any of these conditions, then you are a farking self-absorbed ignorant hypocrite, and I hope everything bad happens to you.

She should have struck deeper. I would have motioned that the person who impregnated the woman seeking the abortion be required to undergo a mandatory vasectomy. All sorts of biatching about women and their vaginas, not enough about men and what they do to them.

Remember Republicans! Your strapping young Adonis was seduced by that evil vile temptress! She stole his sperm to purposely abort his unborn child!
