Synopsis: the American Thinkers have realized their own party thinks they're nutbags.

And where does the Whitey tape, his reverend and the birth certificate nonsense lie?

Is this another whiny piece essentially saying, "Waaaa....everyone's paying attention to us just because we're the party having a primary this year" piece?

It's not the GOP's fault that their field is full of incompetents, liars, and jackoffs, it's the liberals and the media's fault!

The Republican Party has a tenuous hold on the conservative movement in America.

Oh God, American Thinker has become self-aware.

2012-01-30 09:50:40 AM
The mistake the republicans are making (again) is letting the democrats and media steer the course of the primaries to vet their candidates.

They are mistaken thinking that after the primaries are over, the democrats and media will be "candy canes and gumdrops" nice to their candidate.

For this reason and this reason only, the RNC should stay out of it. I have to laugh when you can hear all the Anti-(fill in the name of the candidate) press comes out and is parroted by the republican leadership and talk show hosts.

The irony is that there isn't a nickel's difference between Obama, Gingrinch, Romney or Bush II. They are all hellbent on taking your freedoms away regardless of the constitution (RDAA anybody - the protests from the voters, the leadership and the press supporting them has been quiet).

Now you've gone too far! Leave the Rural Doctors Association of Australia out of this. They never did anything to you.

Ron Paulite? No, the media and the Republicans hate him too. What I was wondering is why the democrat laity are not railing against the democrats for allowing it through and Obama signing it.

sure, it is fun to go Ron Paul here. But the reality is that there is a bill on the books that allows the government to detain you at their will. I used to laugh about the FEMA camps. I am not laughing anymore.

FTFA: There are six primary methods of eliminating potential challengers with the tacit cooperation of the mainstream media, and they have been in full display this primary season. They are to portray unacceptable candidates as:

hypocrites in sexual matters (Herman Cain); or
unstable (Michelle Bachmann); or
ignorant and incoherent (Rick Perry); or
a religious fanatic (Rick Santorum); or
just plain weird and from another planet (Ron Paul); or
dangerous and unelectable (Newt Gingrich).

Am I the only one who thinks the author looked at how each candidate fell by the wayside to Mitt, then determined that these were the "six primary methods of eliminating potential challengers with the tacit cooperation of the mainstream media"?

Serial rapist (Herman Cain); or
Unstable (Michelle Bachmann); or
Ignorant and incoherent, racist (Rick Perry); or
The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that results from anal sex (Rick Santorum); or
Racist (Ron Paul); or
Racist (Newt Gingrich).

The Establishment could not have made a more strategic blunder. They will, in all likelihood, succeed in securing the nomination for Mitt Romney, but the damage they have inflicted upon themselves is approaching irreversible. The public now sees the length to which the Establishment will go to make certain their hand-picked candidate is chosen regardless of the dire circumstances facing the nation.

He has a higher opinion of the voting public than I do

Maybe it is because I have seen how this government is incrementally removing freedoms from you. You know, like being able to object to how they are abusing the constitution without regard to the legality of their actions.

I dunno, you can say I am all "pants-wetttingly afraid", but it is not fear. It is anger. I am angry that the government is trampling on our constitutional rights. If you are not angry, what does that make you? A "see no evil" Milquetoast spineless jellyfish unwilling to speak out for what is right?

Oh, specifically relying on media co-operation. I was wondering why they were limiting it to character assassination.

However, the collective and coordinated vitriol and false or misleading accusations against Newt Gingrich by virtually all in the Establishment, led by the so-called conservative media, is unprecedented.

um...didn't they just go over his record tho?

Did I ever tell you crackers about the time I met the gumm'int? So, my doorbell rings the other night, I answer it and there's this little girl scout standing there. So, I says, "Hey, there, little girl scout. What do you need?" Girl scout leans forward and says, "About tree-fitty." Well, it was right about that time I got to noticin' that this girl scout was made up of an executive, legislative and judicial branch with a massive operating budget. I said, "Damn you, gumm'int. I ain't givin' you no tree-fitty. Get your own damn money. Get off my lawn and put back my prohibition on quartering soldiers where you found it!"

In some ways, I wish the parties would return to their 'smoke-filled rooms' method of picking presidential candidates. Open voting hurts the process because it gives us the least common denominator of candidates.

OH please. As much as I fear even the concept of a Gingrich presidency, I don't for a minute believe that he would be able to enact half the stupid ideas he comes up with. There are no FEMA death camps. Unless you are really committing criminal acts, jackbooted Federal thugs are not going to come into your home and arrest you. Stop reading Alan Moore and get some sunshine. It is better for your mental state.

2012-01-30 12:37:22 PM
Gingrich has rised and fallen due to his performance in the debates and for almost no other reason. He did well in the debates in South Carolina, so he won that state. He did poorly in the debates in Florida, so it looks like he'll lose there. It's that simple.

I don't think you need to be pants-wettingly afraid. People will still need to get their cavity-infested teeth pulled by an Internet dentist no matter who is elected president in November.

I can't see how anyone is surprised by what's going on in the GOP primary. They've practiced Scorched Earth politics on the Democratic Party for the last 3 election, and they 'destroyed' McCain in the 2000 primary season.

This is SOP for the GOP, it's just not working the way that they intended. It's supposed to destroy those candidates that aren't chosen by the establishment, but for once, they have a candidate(Gingrich) who's far better at being a slimeball than they anticipated and won't go quietly into the night.

The media has played an unprecedented role in this primary. They talk up flavor-of-the-month non-Romney candidates to give them 20+ point swings in a matter of days, then a few weeks later, gleefully shoot them down by rewriting the narrative with scandals and laser-like focus on flaws and missteps.

Politics in America really and truly has become a circus.
