IT people never have enough to do, so they spend most of their time fixing things that are not broken.

Not all. I tend to leave things alone if they're working. When you start trying to fix things that aren't broken you can end up breaking them. That's the last thing you want to do.

I am guessing it is justification of their jobs.

The software works great... why change it?

It's been two years since I deleted (not just disabled) my FB account.

I was tired of setting my "security settings" only to have them reset after the next "upgrade".

Never looked back.

Tried G+ for a month. Nope. Not doing this again. Baleted.

Interestingly enough, that new Google tracking cookie has no info, not even an age range guessed.

I'm less interested in quitting because of changes and more interested in quitting on the thought a company is going to go public and possibly make 8b$ based on the collective ramblings of the average ding-dong.

"Upgrade" usually means "you know all that stuff you can do really fast because you're familiar with the program and can almost do it automatically? Yeah, we're changing all that to something 99% different because we've got nothing better to do with our time".

Facebook gets less and less simple to use with each new feature. The new profile layout is terrible, pictures and information and other crap is just all over the place. This shiat is getting more and more like MySpace every year.

2012-01-30 12:02:43 PM
Fortunately, I don't have the new timeline feature yet. Nor do I actually visit anyone's profile to see it. Just keep my friend's inane comments and discussions of intimate medical conditions streaming and we'll be fine. I mean, who actually visits another person's profile?

It's weird, but it's no MySpace. You never go full MySpace.

I like the new timeline, but the subscribe/unsubscribe thing has been pissing off more and more people. That, and Facebook is not your personal soapbox. I don't want to hear how much you "Love Gaga" or how much you "hate the *racial epitaph* president" (I have redneck family).

That, and I am simply amazed at how tight of an echo chamber you can create with Facebook anymore. Simply unsubscribe from or block that which you find offensive or counter to your beliefs and BAM! Self reinforcing bubble.

I just use it anymore because I am too lazy to bother sending photos to my family, and use it as a photo posting service. I should just transfer over to Flickr or something.

Precisely why so many tech "news" sites are writing these articles. They plan on buying as much FB stock as they can afford at the IPO, so it is in their interest to run a lot of negative stories about FB now in order to drive the IPO price down as much as possible by skewing public opinion and portraying it as being on its way "out". Once they have completed the IPO purchases these same media outlets will all be on the FB bandwagon trying to pump it up as much as possible.

Of course the only problem is that FB is on its way out because of increasingly risky data handling practices and policies. That is fine with most people when it comes to scientific data regarding shampoo tests, but when it is the users' personal data that is simply another story. It is the internet, and it is therefore easy to find a better alternative. Look how easy it was for everyone to find an alternative to MySpace. I sure wouldn't be putting my money into it. It is too much like vaporware, and isn't safe enough even over the medium term to seriously consider as an investment option. I think you will see a lot of quick sell offs after the initial buy, and in a year it will be about half of the IPO price.

Agreed with the bolded and I'm surprised no one is offering, or marketing in a higher visibility, an alternative to it yet. Including the concept of ads to support it, but privacy and your info is your privacy and info.

My boyfriend started doing livestream for Occupy Seattle/Mic Check Wall Street events, and he never fails to get that one idiot who demands their "privacy" while in a public park after having left the mall and been captured on multiple cameras anyway. If these people really gave half a shiat about their privacy as they claim to when they run into my boyfriend, they would delete their Facebook accounts.

I've offered that up as a challenge to them many times now, and each time it's met with *crickets*.

Didn't Facebook already list your activity in chronological order? Also, timeline sucks.

Yea but Timeline makes it super easy for someone to click thru and read all that shiat. Deactivated mine a few months ago - I highly recommend it. You wouldn't believe how liberating it is.

The only change that would have had me deleting my FB account without hesitation is the planned in-line ads within the news feed. I'm not petty enough that simple UI changes will cause me to go all Derpy Doo, however I am petty enough that I will not stand additional clutter within the news feed itself.

On the other hand, I am at the point where I only use FB to see what a few of my friends are up to, and if any of the local M/C shops are having special sales.

The timeline makes a nice alternative way to view profiles, but it's terrible as default(and only) view. It did make me realize how much stuff I put on Facebook, so I deleted my old account, waited the two weeks for it to be done then opened up a new one.

Facebook is farking terrible. Their 'artist' page is laughable, and they manage to get worse with every new feature and revamp.

2012-01-30 02:03:36 PM
Facebook has become slow to load, glitchy and just downright a pain to use. They've kind of done the whole "Firefox 4" thing, where there's so many add-ons and such that the entire thing slows to a crawl and doesn't work well anymore.

Unfortunately, it's the only way to connect regularly with most of my family that lives 2,000 miles away. So for now I'm just putting up with it.

/Really hoping for a more simple and streamlined social network to comes along soon.
//tempted to just build it myself, but I'm lazy.
///Google+ doesn't seem like a good fit from what I've seen of it.
