Look America, you're finally getting Europe's 6 year-old leftover Ford Mondeo design!

Seriously.. Americans are about 10 years behind the curve on Euro car design trends, and probably closer to 25 years on Asian domestic market designs.

Mark my words, in a couple decades, most people will be driving diminutive 5 door hatchbacks powered by a 3 cylinder hybrid turbodiesel powertrain.

Or perhaps that sedan and hatchback sales are much higher in Europe which means Ford tests their new designs over there first, before they bring them over to America. While in America pickup and SUV designs start here then go over to Europe.

That's my point.. By and large, Ford Euro car designs from nearly 10 years ago are vastly superior to what Ford was crapping out in the US.

Going further back, look at the Euro Escort. Light-years ahead of the crap we got here.

I think the '86 Taurus was the last time a US manufacturer had the jump on automobile design, not that anyone followed. Almost purchased one, but a two-week rental changed my mind. They handled like a drunk cow.

Hey, but Volkswagen is trying to reverse that trend by building a new car that looks like the Fusion from three years ago!

They should give you a loaf of white bread and a vanilla cone when you test drive that generic piece of shiat.

The new Fusion looks sharp, but if the other 88% is still made by Ford there will be some very stylish junkyards in 3 years.

Were also about 7-10 years behind you on price. The current Fusion is about $7K USD cheaper than the Mondeo

Oh yea, the UAW decides what Americans will buy. After deciding, the UAW then tells Ford what to make.

the 2013 ford mondeo will look exactly like this Fusion.

Ford tried selling an exact copy of the mondeo here before, aka the Contour. Even the ST trim level was offered (SVT here).

Sales disaster. Car and Driver initially put it on its top ten list and later apologized for including it.

the Ford Focus had the same design across the pond for a number of years, diverging a few years ago. Now the focus is the same again.

Former Contour owner.

What a rolling, giant, steaming pile of shiat. If that's what's considered "good" in Europe, they can keep it. It was a primped up old lady's grocery getter. It was boring, underpowered (even with the 24V V6), handled like a Centurion mud-pig and ate breaks like they were tic-tacs. On top of it, the throttle body was notorious for sticking and binding.

Ford Europe has done some amazing things with the RS line of Escorts and Foci but I've never been impressed with their sedans.

Not in a Legacy or Impreza, it's not. MPG in a Suby is on average way better compared to most AWD sedans of the same class.

Holy crap, the engine choices in that car are insane. I'm driving a bog standard 2006 one now with the 2.3L and the five speed, no ABS or trac control, and such a thing will not even come close to existing in this model.

They're going to have two hybrids, one that's plug in and one that's not, and two "ecoboost" four bangers that are turbo charged with independent variable cam timing (I don't even know what that is).

Also, for transmissions, there's the six speed flappy paddle gear box standard in the gas cars and a continuously variable transmission in the hybrids, with some sort of "optional manual transmission" listed as well on one of the ecoboost engines. The bog standard 2.5L doesn't have a manual option that I can see, which is just completely ridiculous.

I love the Fusion, btw, but it's a pig in the snow. For whatever reason, I can not get uphill with the stick and the four banger up front. I don't know if it's tires, or I just suck at driving, but if I'm trying to go uphill on an unplowed road in first or second, I just spin the tires like crazy and get nowhere in a hurry. The rubber is all season cheapies bought new less than a year ago, which might be part of the problem, but the car just doesn't like the white stuff. The lack of ABS and trac control doesn't help, either.

I owned a 2010 SEL for 9 months and had warranty work done on the transmission 4 times. It was slipping and flaring . . . sometimes so roughly it would chirp the tires in 3rd/4th gear. The 5th time, I had the transmission replaced entirely--and it acted up again.

In December I traded for a 2011 Taurus Ltd. and so far I'm pretty pleased . . . . knock on wood.

Owned a '95 Escort and a '95 TBird. The Escort was a weak POS at that. Was an LX with an anemic 88hp. Turn the AC on while getting on the interstate? Make that 44hp. The TBird tho didn't last long on me as the engine was shot to shiat. The transmission was on its way out the door before I even got it. Finally died on me, and had oil problems so bad that when it did die, my mechanic pulled a spark plug out that was dripping with oil.

Btw, almost all the 90s Mazdas and Ford are the EXACT same...just a different badge and slightly different body style. And I know that for a fact, most Kia Sedonas are the exact same as Ford Windstars

One of my co-workers had a 2010 Fusion. The dealer just handed her a brand new 2011 after finding out that her wheels could fall off. I read it here on Fark, told her, she went to the dealer and told them, they had had no clue so they looked it up. Two weeks later she has a new car.

Needless to say, I'm wary of Fusions now.
