Too much food = white owl problems.

But how is the sheeple population doing?

So just hit the nuke button, turn down the inflow speed and restart the level.

They're being herded by rabbits. Try to keep up.

So that snowy owl that turned up in Hawaii was following a trail of lemmings?

brantgoose: So that snowy owl that turned up in Hawaii was following a trail of lemmings?

The lemmings are not available in winter, so the Snowy Owls go hungry. Younger owls get pushed out, and flee south in search of food.

That Hawaiian Snowy Owl chose a poor route south. Finding safe haven in Hawaii was incredibly lucky until they shot it.

So, the lemmings are training the owls??

Won't someone think of the poor misguided owls. Lured out of their homeland, scattered to the winds, at the beck and call of rodents, divided, if you will, and rendered impotent to decide their own course.
sorta

At first I was all shocked and offended.
But then I was all "farking people!"
It is what you should expect.

That graph is nonsense. Men with guns are the only way to control populations. They're helping nature by keeping prey on the edge of extinction and completely wiping out predators. You have to be a liberal anti-gun wackjob to not see how clear that is.

Actually, that's true: Managed sport hunting almost always results in an increase in game populations, and unlike market hunting and subsistence hunting, I can't think of a single case where sport hunting caused a targeted species to decrease in population significantly.

It sounds counterintuitive, that shooting animals saves the species as a whole, until you understand the "sport" part of "sport hunting". It's people hunting not for a living, or because they need it to feed their families, but because they *ENJOY* it. People who like doing something are willing to pay for the privilege, and hunters do both directly through license fees, and indirectly through habitat protection and things like the11% Pittman-Robertson excise tax on guns, bows, and ammunition.

It's not just game animals that benefit, either: The habitat that sport hunters work to preserve also hosts non-game species, so it's basically a win-win all around.

It is now.

Magorn: The Bengal Tiger, African Black Rhino, and Tasmanian Wolf would all like a word,

All of these cases were because of market hunting, not sport hunting.

Bengal Tiger: The handful of Brits that hunted them didn't significantly effect the populations, they were and are killed for economic reasons, for use in traditional Chinese medicines, and because of their striking pelts. This is market hunting, not sport hunting.

African Black Rhino: Again, not sport hunting. It was hunting them for their horn to sell for dagger handles and for traditional Chinese medicines. Pure market hunting. Remember, illegal poaching generally isn't done for sport reasons.

Tasmanian Wolf: The Thylacine wasn't killed off by sport hunters, it was market hunting in the form of a £1 bounty paid by the government. It was market hunting where the market was the government itself.

So, care to try again?
