ten years of banning federally funded research into stem cell therapies, and we've figured out how to make (mostly) stem-cells by reverting other cells to a childlike state. They're called induced pluripotent cells and theyre the best way we have to do experiments on someone's brain or heart tissue without actually removing any!
As schizophrenic brains have interesting genetic anomalies (copynumber polymorphic), this is very good research.

I feel for the poor grad student who had to spend his weekends/evenings skinning mental patients.

You can tell yourself it's just for science and sacrifices must be made but at some point, after your 100th or so, it starts to wear on you.

Oh well, that's why they get paid the big-bucks.
