Considering Tyrion's new role in this part of the story and how much Dinklage knocked it out of the park in the first season, should they go ahead and award the best supporting actor?

Supporting actor? He'd be robbed if he wasn't the lead winner already and we haven't even seen it yet.

I'm hoping some other members of the cast start getting attention from the various awards. Sean Bean's lack of nominations was a complete snub for the first season.

Also...I'm amazed at the younger actors they've found for the parts. The whole series could have dropped with bad acting in the parts of Joffrey, Sansa and Arya. I've never wanted to see a child character get a good stabbing like I did with Joffrey, and he's even worse in the second season. And Bran will have a larger role in the second season, so we'll have to see how he carries it.

That. Considering how much Tyrion is the driver in the next books, he should get a lead actor nomination.

/then it all sours and he would get "best passenger on boat" awards...

I'm so looking forward to this. It's marked on every single of my calendars. Even the hubs is looking forward. I'm a little sad that there will be no Drogo. :(

I hate these threads.

I'd love to talk about GoT, but people who have read the books feel the desire to play spoiler way too much.

Having never read the books, I'm guessing that half of the people we see in the teaser will be dead by the end of the season.

Hopefully Joffrey is one of them, that little prick needs to die so badly.

Best thing on television hands down. All the acting is magnificent, but the kids do especially stand out because it is such a pleasant surprise how good they are. April 1 can't come soon enough.

2012-01-30 11:13:45 AM
Having read the books, seeing a little girl encapsulate Arya so amazingly was so well done. She deserved a nomination.

I just realized something missing from the teaser...

The free HBO that we were getting to make up for poor service has just expired. I will be sad in April when I don't get to watch. I would even buy the episodes on iTunes, but I don't think they will release the episodes for a year.

Well, read the first three and then stop.

Call up and complain about more poor service, or threaten to cancel because it's too expensive and service is still poor.

The actor does a great job at making him completely insufferable and is a good villain. I haven't read the books either, but wouldn't be surprised if he manages to hang around longer just because he seems like one of those characters that will do whatever it takes to not be the one getting killed.

Good point. I didn't consider that he would probably be considered a lead this season. Considering how well the casting has been, watching Tyrion match wits with Viserys and Littlefinger will be awesome.

Don't feel the need to read them. The show is already epic. Why ruin it by reading the books? Plus, I prefer reading non-fiction anyway.

Hard to believe it's her very first acting job. She sure does have a chance at a great career, that's for sure.

I've only read the first book, but I wasn't particularly fond of it. It was overly long with mainly stupid/obnoxious characters. That being said, I like the series; they cut out a lot of the stuff that slowed the book down, and the actors help bring out the humanity of the characters (although they're still mostly stupid and/or obnoxious).

Sidereel.com is an awesome site and has links up to new episodes of any show withing minutes of them airing. There are also places that will live stream the episode but those links are harder to find.

My solution was to read all the books. In all honesty, season 1 you could get by without hearing spoilers as the series was not yet a huge success. If you want some real suprises start reading now before they get ruined. I can tell you there were times that I had to put the book down and walk away to reflect and think about what the fark just happened.

Since it is a Song of Ice and Fire thread I'll continue my shameless plugging of Benedickt Cumberbatch as Ramsay Bolton. In particular since they have now cast Michael McElhatton as Roose Bolton.

Find a friend who has HBO; if their cable provider lets them access HBO GO, ask your friend to borrow their log-in.

My long term prediction: eventually HBO will just sell HBO GO to non-subscribers.

I've never liked reading books after starting to watch a new series until the season is over. Reading the book always spoils the watching since you know what's going to happen. On the other hand, you can read the book after watching the season and still feel like it's reasonably new to you since so much never makes it to the screen.

I don't understand that. Game of Thrones is a 15-yo book. Just how long do people expect the "No Spoilers" rule to remain in effect? I only started reading the series last winter and kept tripping across spoilers. Didn't ruin it for me.

If I recall correctly, they recast some key parts after a few episodes of season 1 had been shot, which resulted in a bunch of re-shoots and the season 1 premier date being pushed back.

Nah, not the only one. I love the series, went out and bought the first book, sat down and started reading...stopped. It's dull. I'll try again later.

Tried several times...it's still dull. I've long since given up.

Does HBO even have the budget to pull off the Eddard Stark talking through Ghost convincingly for an entire season, or are they gonna cheap it out with a voiceover and call it good?
The only way I can see them pulling it off as CGI is to cut the entire sequence with Other-Arya melding with Cersei entirely and just say that Joffrey was "pretending" the whole time due to (insert clever rationalization here), unless the whole budget is already blown on the Dragonriders melting The Wall a book early.

Whatever, just gotta have faith in HBO, fingers crossed ... April 1st is too far away!

I don't think Joffrey has ever really considered that he is mortal. To begin with he's a child of privilege, but he's also very, very stupid.

I loved the first three books. Book four was a chore, and I read about a quarter of book five before I gave up. I don't know if I'll ever try again. There's just so many pages, yet so little actual movement.

Lol. I wish. We had a DVR go bad, they replace it with another defective DVR (leaving before they could test it). It took about two weeks to get everything working again. I suppose I could squirt water into the vent slots.

The threads are discussing the series, not the books so coming in here with spoilers from the books is a dick move, especially since so many people haven't read the books. If there were threads discussing the books, I would expect there to be spoilers.

On a number of series, the producers don't release episodes on iTunes until well after the season is over. It is hard to tell with GOT. The first season was only released on Dec 1.

What about the Dothraki crossing on the Narrow Sea on the land bridge the witches of Dorne conjure up? I totally did not see that alliance!

Its unfortunate that the RTS game based on the novels was less than stellar.

Anyway about the actors dinklage is awesome.

I have heard that Gleeson's character joffrey is so hated by the audience that he has received death threats. I can understand children confusing the actor with the character but if these are coming from adults it is a sad state of affairs.

Poor unsullied. No penis or testicles. Ouch.

I don't blame people for discussing spoilers after a certain amount of time. In reality, if you've seen something, feel free to discuss it all you want. Who cares what other people think.

Just sucks for those of us who don't know what's going to happen, that's all. Not the end of the world here.

Wonder how they'll change the second season. Some of the lead cast (Jaime especially) get little to do in there, which probably won't work out that well - as I don't think they'd still pay 'em enough and thus risk not having them available for season 3.

/And I kinda don't wanna see the actor they cast as Loras fly into a rage. Highly doubt that he can exeed the "hissy fit" range

2012-01-30 12:07:45 PM
All my friends love the series so I bought the first couple books years ago. Slogged through the first one, got a little into the second, set it down and never picked it back up. What I remember was too many characters, too many threads and a bunch died.

Fast forward, caught the first episode on a free HBO weekend and loved it. Seemed like they really boiled it down to the interesting bits- I'm not sure they even named all the kids. So I'll probably pick up the disks in March. Debating giving the books another go. Do the seasons and books match up one-to-one i.e., season one = book one, season two = book two?
