I ran out of Xmas gift ideas for my grandmother and got her a lava lamp. She loves it. Unfortunately she's not a stoner (except for her drawer full of meds).

Overrated.

Mine's burning bright, along with some other things... I couldn't help but post on this one.

Reminds me that I must get the liquid stuff inside replaced...

So, lets have a colour contest...

Red/Purple vs Green/Yellow

I had mine on last night. I also figured out that if I take one that is heated up and shake it, so it is all red (in my case) inside, my cat is desperately afraid of it. I have no idea why, but he freaked out

We have a total of 16 burning on our plant shelf...a nice alternative to fake ivy, I think.

I have an original one from the 60's. I'm sure it was a different color originally. Now the wax is faded to white and the water is a light blue (kind of like Miracle Gro). Still cool though.

2003-10-20 07:53:22 AM
Poe, if you shake them like that you'll ruin them -- at least the original ones. I know because when was a kid I trashed one of my parents' one by doing that.

Whoa.

I love my lava lamps. I had the (dis)pleasure of knocking one over while dusting, and breaking it. The thing took a one hop off of the entertainment center and landed on the edge of one of my iron frame glass table tops. The glass top broke, the lava lamp broke, and I had red oil and glass shards all over the off-white carpet. That bastard cost me a 250 dollar security deposit.

Good times....good times.

"I have 64 lamps - including 31 Midnights and 16 Centurys."
Wow, 31 Midnights?? Eat your hearts out you lavalamp newbs.

Also, that "artist's concept image" of the huge lava lamp is asking for another photoshop.

Once in a while I pull my '60s lamp out of the closet and turn it on. Somehow it's not the same when you're not stoned.

2003-10-20 08:37:34 AM
When I got my first lava-lamp, I pretty much spent every night for a week just staring at it. Yet, I'm not a stoner...
But, whoa, anyway

Glitter lamps are for sissies. Winamp visuals are for losers. Lava lamps FOREVER!

Atari Videomusic is pretty hot too.

Hey, don't bogart that . . .

Twas the big shaker of 2001 that sent my lavalamp to the floor. Luckily, she was more than a match for the Nisqually quake and escaped with just a cracked cap. She now resides at my niece and nephews house to inspire a new generation of slackers.

I have three of them in my dorm room :)

They compliment the fractal posters and constant smell of weed very nicely!

Goddammit, I love Google. For years I've had this wretched memory of these lamps that oozed beads of oil down fishing line. They made me vomit in the aisles where I stood watching. Madness in the wake of Lava Lamps. Anything that I have hated greatly in my life is held near and dear in my black heart. I want to hold those memories more tightly. I want to know just what to call them.

And today all it took was entering lamp "beads of oil" and I got my answer in know time.

Behold The Rain Lamp:

I think you should have warned those who follow in your Googled footsteps of the really crappy music they would encounter.

Too wild man, I have some friends that have that exact same friggin lamp. The oil it uses is scented, and much to my surprise, extremely hot to the touch.

Its kind of one of those things when you see it, your first thought is "Thats F'ing cool"

The thought quickly passes :)

2003-10-20 10:27:39 AM
Hytes I too was once a little boy... Okay, okay, I was actually a lentle coy..(a shy human bean.)

[/should've worked my steps before taking that hit]
