I remember hearing that dolphins sleep only half their brain at a time, so perhaps this means that a half brained dolphin is as slow as a humpback whale?

This far in and no one's bothered to post the South Park bit? There is some hope yet!

All this really shows is remote mental control of humpback whales over dolphins. Not something as farfetched as show routines. Why would they translate the show into whalesh? Obviously the whales would have to handle that part of it.

I think it's pretty clear to see what this means: whales are controlled by sleeping dolphins.

its important to emphasize the sound 'uh' after the word 'fark.'

sounds more like 'fokka-u.'

An interesting speculation I read many years ago was that cetaceans in general (whales, orcas, porpoises, and dolphins) may not have a language as we understand the term, not because of a lack of sapience, but because of a lack of need for language.

The researcher doing the speculating had recorded calls from recently freed and tagged formerly captive cetaceans in the open ocean and detected simulated reverbation / "echoes" similar to what would've been heard when those cetaceans were still in their tanks, with real reverb coming from the walls of the tank.

What if cetaceans can actually simulate reverbation and thus apply an acoustic environment to the sounds they produce, that listening cetaceans can then decode with their sonar-analyzing brains, producing 3-D sonar imagery in their minds on-the-fly of whatever the "speaking" cetacean wanted to convey? The actual sounds themselves then would be of little importance, or would convey intangible concepts, while all concrete and tangible concepts would be formed in sonar imagery. It would be similar to telepathic imagery, but based on real physics instead of some psychic mumbo-jumbo metaphysics.

If a 2-D picture is worth a thousand words, what is a 3-D real-time sonar image (that could be animated in real time, no less!) worth?

A lot of quantum physics sounds like mumbo-jumbo metaphysics.

The dolphins are speaking in tongues.

If these dolphins were raised in captivity, they could easily have learned Whale while developing. Probably learned french too, but don't possess the proper phonemes to speak it.

Jesus. It's like someone who knows half Latin and half French is typing on a keyboard where the vowel keys only work half the time.
