This'll be great - Mr. C., The Fonz, Potsie...

You were obviously uncool in 1990.

/me too.

... and they might be doing a show with the reunited Stone Roses?

THAT'S AWESOME!

Google "Madchester" and "Factory Records".

Yes (somewhat popular). I still love them. Well, their old stuff

The fact that Shaun Ryder isn't dead is a personal victory of sorts.

How on earth are all seven of these people still alive? Put "24 Hour Party People" on your Netflix queue if you are unfamiliar with this drug-addled bunch of lunatics. They made 1967-era Grateful Dead look like a ladies' tea society meeting.

I'm quite surprised as well. Though I knew Ryder was still alive because of his work with Gorillaz.

For those of you who haven't heard of them, I think this was their biggest hit in the states:

I listened to clips of their albums on amazon.
STONE ROSES were WAY better.

(on their first album at least...)

Throw in the KLF and I might have to take a summer off of work.

Yeah, I'm surprised, too. The guy looked so haggard the last time I saw/heard of him I just assumed that he Winehoused himself years ago.

Great news, because I was far too uncool for them the first time round.

Although this may spark a revival of wankers going around trying to put on a "madchester" accent in a desperate attempt to be cool.

try a few more times - they are slightly, but significantly, different than any other band. they might grow on you. Bummed, Pills n Thrills, and part of the debut are great. Also, don't you want to give another chance to the best idiot-genius of music?

Some people just don't like them. But when I listened to them these days, I still love it. Stone Roses, eh, they didn't hold up to decades of listening.

I don't think they were. I loved them. They come up on random play every once in a while and I always go reset it to listen to the entire album.

Never heard of them.

Rather see Bolt Thrower.

No, you don't think I'm cool. Get farked.

I liked the Manchester mini-wave... one of my favorite albums from the era was Voice of the Beehive's Honey Lingers which sort of bastardized it but was still a lot of fun. Now I'm off to dig out my Inspiral Carpets tapes.

2012-01-30 11:30:38 AM
Really ought to be careful with that, Shaun. You could take someone's eye out.

Shaun looks like shiate in the pic accompanying the article. By comparison, Bez look positively healthy.

Bez was the only part of that concert (1989, Madison WI) worth watching. Shaun sat on a stool the whole show and stared at the floor while mumbling lyrics. The whole show. It was a wonderful compare/contrast of the effects of heroin v. ecstasy. I'll stick to the E, at least while in public, on a stage, being watched by people who paid for the privilege. Otherwise all bets are off.

Stone Roses are definitely my favorite from that period, and yeah, their first album is far superior to their second. 2nd favorite: The Charlatans. Love that organ. Too bad about their organist. :/

Are you suggesting they don't? Oasis wouldn't have happened without Madchester... that's where they started.

I was inferring the aforementioned wankers using a template to justify their 'madferrit' tripe, not that the Gallaghers belonged to the Hacienda era.

Watched that movie because I like Joy Division (and I'm old enough to remember them //get off my lawn) but the best part was seeing Andy Serkis as Martin Hannett. From all accounts, he nailed that performance.

//overproduced by Martin Hannett, take four
