A couple of good things to listen to this week:

Venenum - Bewitched Craft (outstanding German death metal)

Anguish (Swe) - Through the Archdemon's Head (preview) (holy crap this doom is heavy and awesome! Can't wait for this one.)

Blair Witch - World of Wildness (mostly female black metal band from Taiwan; they also have the distinction of having possibly the dumbest review I've ever seen on metal archives. No, they shouldn't sound more like girls or more like CthoniC)

/I go back and forth on Goatwhore, but I like this song.

Digging that Venenum song. The Anguish stuff sounds promising. And it's hard to narrow down the dumbest review on MA. As for Goatwhore, that's my first time listening to them. Not bad, not great.

Haven't been listening to much of anything lately. I did listen to the new Lamb of God, but I got about three songs in before giving up.

i always wondered, if they ever hurt their voice doing that

I'm not a fan of Goatwhore. I've seen them live a ton of times and was never really impressed. Tonight I'm trying to get up the energy to go see Inquisition open up for Dark Funeral. I'm thinking of skipping it because I've seen Dark Funeral a few times already. Abigail Williams (new window) is also playing and apparently they've completely changed their sound. Last time I saw them they were a metal core band. Am I going to miss out if I don't go?

I also saw Ghost and Blood Ceremony two weeks ago. Both put on great shows.

Harsh vocals (whether it's death growls or black metal shrieks) are not good for your vocal cords. There are specific techniques that you need to use or else you're going to do permanent damage (Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy had to take six months off due to polyps on her vocal cords for example). Even with proper technique, most extreme metal vocalists prefer to rest their voices extensively between shows/recording to keep them in good condition.

Really? When I'm just jonesing for art which reflects man's eternal struggle with his own mortality, I always go to Goatwhore.

Wow - I remember seeing Goatwhore open for Mortician in Chicago sometime in 2000 or 2001, I think.

They've only gotten worse since then.

This counts as a video now? Whatever.

People who like good music should listen to Ritual's The Summoning. Straight-up quality USBM.

Ah, so that's pretty much everyone who still complains about harsh vocals in these threads. (except replace Lamb of God with Testament).

I tried for a long time to get the rights to release that on vinyl

Goatwhore is pretty boring.

The new Sigh (new window), on the other hand, is great.

That was pretty interesting, and good.

Thanks too for the link to Beyond Creation (in your top list of 2011). I'm not a big fan of tech death, so I overlooked it the first time, but went back and now that I've heard the whole album, holy crap! It's really very good. The bass in particular is excellent. So a belated thanks for that!

/sorry if this is a double post - I distinctly remember posting this about two hours ago, but it doesn't seem to have appeared in the thread....

Glad you liked it. Dominic LaPointe is a beast. He also played bass with Augury.

Holy crap! As much fun as it was to listen to, it was even better seeing it.
