In five years, hittable, mostly hittable.

Well, at least, unlike males, when she stops lifting, and all those chest muscles turn into breasts, it won't look so freakish.

The under arm wattle is going to be pretty gross though.

The Blaze? Let me guess, Obama is somehow blamed or credit somehow goes to Reagan.

I heard she can lift herself up by her bootstraps somewhere between 81-89 times in one workout

I can't fap to this

"I think the reason Abbey is lifting weight that surpasses adults is because she's never been told she can't do it."

I think the reason Abbey is lifting weight that surpasses adults is that she's strong and has a rigorous regime of diet and exercise to make her that way. I'm going to go with that instead of the magical no-one-has-mentioned-to-her-that-most-thirteen-year-old-girls-aren't-c ompetitive-weight-lifters theory.

Umm, it was the skills competition, not the game itself. And the 24hrs of Daytona isn't a "circle".

But two guys face-farking each other on a mat and hitting each other with limp wrists gets its own thread.

Then again, the wrestling tools who like watching muscular men with bad acting skills stimulate their suppressed homoerotic fantasies every Monday get a thread also. So all seems normal I suppose.

Except that stereotype threat is both real and measurable. If you tell athletes that, say, they are limited due to race, gender, or similar immutable traits, they do measurably worse than if you don't tell them (new window).

I was interpreting the comment "because she's never been told she can't do it" in a different way than the influence on visualization of success. With what you're saying, the comment makes more sense. I do wonder what girl hasn't "been told" by mass media innumerable times she is not supposed to lift weights, especially not competitively, which is why the interpretation of the comment by her coach seems a little...new agey.

alright that coach is awesome.

"Bacon is SO good".

She's got that strong big jaw like Princess Beatrice...can't decide if it's an attractive type of feature or not. Otherwise good for the little girl, she's more unique in accolades than I am.

Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfarker. Pigs sleep and root in shiat. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got sense enough to disregard its own feces.

Her deadlift form is terrible. She is going to be lucky to not have back problems in a few years...

Your back should not be bent over 90 degrees in a deadlift. Ever.

TommyymmoT: Well, at least, unlike males, when she stops lifting, and all those chest muscles turn into breasts, it won't look so freakish.

That doesnt happen, it just gets softer. But due to muscle memory you can start back up and your body will snap back in a short time.

no shiat, it's more like an ellipse with flattened out sides. of course the "driving in an ellipse-with-flattened-out-sides competition" doesn't have the same ring to it...

Always make sure you don't turn right in your ellipse with flattened out sides.

Theaetetus: Except that stereotype threat is both real and measurable.

Sure, but that quote didn't read to me as having much to do with stereotype threat (she's clearly been singled out as exceptional and it's not as though no one has pointed out stereotypes which suggest that she should be performing worse (hell, the linked news story starts with the reporter saying "She's breaking all the stereotypes").

The girl's setting records. She's clearly exceptional, and my comment was merely aimed at giving her the credit for the hard work she's put in to do what she's done. The trainer's comment read more to me like the nonsense about bumblebees than an observation that she's doing better than she might have done if she were made to feel anxious about confirming a negative stereotype.

I'm not trying to sound stupid here, but how is it possible to hold a world record and not a U.S. state record if the record was set in a state in the U.S.?

farbekrieg: isnt power lifting not particularly healthy at that age? stunts growth like coffee and cigarettes bad?

Give her a prescription for Avelox/Cipro/Levaquin and watch those tendons shred.

Good for her.

Something like this takes hard work, sacrifice and devotion.

I type this as I watch my two girls (15 and 11) lay around the house doing nothing.

The thing about powerlifting records is that there are multiple powerlifting organizations, each with their own lifting/equipment/juicing standards, and each with their own records. Her records are in a federation I've never heard of--granted, it's been a decade since I left the sport--and are for her age/sex/weight group (which doesn't get a lot of competition). There are probably fewer than 5 people she's competing against for her records.

Coffee doesn't stunt growth. That's an old wives tale.

Its not. her form is impeccable. One reaosn she's succesful is becuase she's lifting better than 90% of the turnips at my gym. even her pull-up form is spot on.

Hopefully she gets out of powerlifting and into Oly before the supplement sponsors show up, sign her to a contract or16 and talk her into going on a cycle and fark her up for life.

She is bent over way too much on the deadlift. Although that may be because she is so short, I am not sure.

Yeah and another one, 24 hours of Daytona is not a nascar event, it is a road course race, so there are more than just left turns.

If you are going to biatch about racing, at least know which race you are biatching about.

Came here to say this, but then I watched that part again and it doesn't look too bad, she's keeping her shoulders back and chest out... I think it just looks odd at first because she's so small.
