Sorry, GOP, you shiat in your bed, now you have to sleep in it...

Maybe you guys could convince Rick Perry or Herman Cain to jump back in... you sure seemed to like them a lot a couple months ago.

I wonder how Limbaugh would feel about a reverse Operation Chaos.

Considering the delegates are open to change and could be swayed either way, the money is on who Ron Paul's delegates go too. Paulians could very decide the future of the GOP. Should make for one hell of a convention.

RON... something.

RON... Weasley?

No. that can't be right.

Seriously - we've been saying this on Fark since the beginning - it would narrow down to Romney and someone else (Newt was the favorite from the moment he jumped in), and that they would beat the living shiat out of each other in the primaries so that neither of them stands a snowball's chance in the General election.

Did anyone NOT see this coming?

The GOP is amazingly inept, politically. One or the other of them is poisoning their own well on a daily basis. A third candidate would make no difference.

Though Colbert would get my vote.

I miss the old, goosestepping GOP.

Since neither one will win, I favor Newt. If you're going to cause a train wreck, you may as well use the biggest locomotive you can find.

The GOP needs to Jettison their strange merger of neoconservative foreign policies and neoliberal economic policies.
Thats whats screwed.
Been saying this for years.

Benevolent Misanthrope: The GOP is amazingly inept, politically.

its their paradigm(s) or the fusion of them that creates this inept worldview. Any candidate that works with these paradigms is going to be working with a broken paradigm. Any candidate that breaks free of these paradigms is seen as being a RINO or some pejorative that describes someone who is outside of the accepted paradigm.

Thats all there is to it.

"Is there maybe a third choice we could look at?"

Yeah. I've been hearing some good things about this "Obama" cat.

Agreed - Roemer and Huntsman were too smart to run this time out. There's no way for the GOP to win - why expend political capital? They'll wait until a GOP run is viable.

2012-01-28 02:01:27 PM
I'm guessing that they've written off 2012 and are going to wait it out until 2016. Since they've put so much effort into farking up this country through congress and since every republican candidate is such a psychotic mess, it's the only logical conclusion. They're sitting this one out.

They're going to have to tear the party to the ground and burn the religion, stupidity, and derp out.

It'll never happen, but it's a nice thought.

So... who? I mean it, who could run that would have any realistic chance of bringing together enough voters to beat Obama? Of any of the politicians that would have a sufficient level of name recognition, who among them could do it?

And for those of you who are saying "forget Mittens and Leroy, we still have ButtJuice / RONPAUL" do you honestly believe that a candidate that can't get any more support from within the party itself is going to being in enough people to win? Because you can't just do it on Republican support, there are less Republicans than there are Democrats and both are overshadowed by independents. So you have to pull from outside the party. Who do you think could possibly do that?

Out of curiosity, I looked up Edwin Edwards. Dude's out of jail. Apparently some people want Obama to pardon him so he can run for governor of Louisiana again. You'd think these people would have learned their lesson the first four times.

Doesn't Edwin have any children? These positions in Louisiana are hereditary.

The GOP cooked their goose during the Bush years. Not likely to get any serious candidates from them unless Obama screws up his second term.

Obama doesn't need to screw up. Who is a viable D candidate for 2016? Hillary? Biden? Barney Frank?

Hillary would be come in strong, but I don't know if she'll want to do it by then.

All I've managed to get from this thread, so far, is that someone named their cat Obama.

I don't think the cat would qualify.

From what I've heard, she's retiring as of the next election, which will give her several years to rebuild her machine.

Who is a viable Republican '16? The party is only going to get even crazier by then. The current field will look studious and dignified by then

Politically it kind of does. Let the second string come up and take their hits and try to groom a halfway decent group for the next time. Hopefully at least two or three realistic candidates. In the meantime, Obama wins and the Republicans not only work against him for the next four years, but blame him for failures due to that obstruction. That will give them a decent slate of "More of the same?" talking points for 2016.

That's definitively one possible outcome. Or they have a few years to figure out how to regain power, and fix what they've be.come.

I'm just kinda hoping that teh crazy from the GOP also encourages more voters to put Democrats back in Congress. I can dream...
