I have to admit - visually, the game is pretty spiffy looking. ok...Hoth is kind of boring but it's Hoth. its kinda supposed to be boring. But when i'm flying across the dune sea on tatooine it really feels like i'm in a star wars movie.

Well yeah, I guess if you zoom way the fark out, the textures do look high-res.

There's a false Emperor? I guess you can tell because he installed guard rails in his space station.

"hoth?" they should've called it "colth!"

Play that same song.

Some gems in that movie.

Damn. I suck at video games but shots like that make me want to pick this one up.

"Nar Shaddaa" sounds familiar. That's not just a do-wop group from Grease, right, was that from the Nintendo 64 Star Wars game?

Nice, but imagine how many panoramas had to be created to implement Google Street View for Liberty City (new window)

Has it gotten much better to play? I bought it at launch and got bored with it really quickly with how repetitive missions and combat became. I think it's supposed to be free to play now, but is it worth getting back into?

A game like this you don't really suck at. It's not really dependent on hand-eye coordination or quick reflexes. There aren't really any puzzles to work through. There's some thinking involved in choosing how to fight (i.e., order of button pushes on keyboard) different enemies (at least for my Sniper).

It's a pretty game and all. Good story. Farking BOOOORING game play.

2012-01-28 10:29:16 AM
The game is pretty awesome, been playing since launch. The only issue I have is with the leveling system, I need to be 3-4 levels above any "boss" to beat them.

and lag is wicked much to often.

Its a fun game tho

It's a pretty game, I wish it were fun though. Or maybe I don't. MMOs are pretty tiresome nowadays.

Unfortunately the game is still in beta. It's still ridiculously buggy and just wasn't fun for me

Yes, it's still buggy. But not in ways that are game breakers. At least not for me.

I love, love, love this game.

It makes me happy in ways that no mere game should. Of course, I was a huge KOTOR fan and I loved WoW, so it only makes sense that I would enjoy every second of SWTOR.

I've played games that were much more buggy at launch than SW:TOR; Star Trek online was terribly buggy at launch. I quit because I got tired of putting in bug reports like I was at work. TOR has been pretty good to me so far.

Depends on what you consider game breaking. I consider it pretty game breaking when several major classes are practically unplayable.

Once I got past the honeymoon period- it really is fantastic in a lot of ways - the bugs broke me. At a minimum they were immersion breaking. I think I'm just MMO'd out. I feel guilty dumping that kind of time into a video game anymore

"unplayable" is such a non-specific word. I've played all the classes to some extent and not had any issues. I don't necessarily like their mechanics, but that's a good thing, it means people have options.

I put in lots and lots of bug reports in TOR... the online support's "protocol droid" non-responses lost their cuteness after the 9th or 10th time saying that they have forwarded the report to another department. The one time I did get a pointed response, they misinterpereted what I was saying and were actually pretty rude about it

Now, I definitely understand being mmo'd out. I quit wow back in March and have been ready to dump that kind of time into a game again...

Of course, mostly what I do is send companions out on crafting missions and go afk. I haven't gotten into any of the high end stuff, yet.

take those classes to 30+... they're all overpowered in the first 10 levels or so. Not like the WoW classes, but they're still deceptively effective early game imo

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I just started playing; I like the feel/mechanics of Jedi Sentinel, my char is about lvl 20. I always get torn apart in PvP and have a pretty tough time in PvE. Then I roll a Scoundrel and spam aimed shot and backfire at level 11 and top the charts in damage, kills, etc, with almost no effort. I like to think that once I learn how to play as a Sentinel "correctly" I'll at least do as well as another class spamming their "dumb" skills. Am I right or hoping in vain?

I play a healer and only run in a group, so I my character is always under powered. But my bounty hunter husband seems to have to problem taking down large groups at 30+. We have been able to handle all of the flashpoints without any issues so far. But like I said, I don't do much by myself, so I do see what you're saying.

Gear seems very important. I have all orange pieces and take just commendations or mod, armoring or enhancements when levelling,

Use a healer companion, that seems important.

The end boss fights on quests can be very difficult, they really want you to think about what abilities to use. You could just ask for help, but I hate asking for help personally.

Sentinal is a support character. Any time you are without a tank you really shouldn't expect to live. That is why I hate MMOs. It is designed to be playable a certain way. I really wanted KOTOR3. Single player, so nobody else can stick their fingers in my pudding (suffering through stupid/troll choices made in Flashpoints which deviate from what your own choices would be). I want a game that I can put 50-100 hours into and be done. Then maybe a year later come back to and try with a different character type. Now playthroughs require CONSTANT grinding and every month EA wants to get paid again.

Pass

The deck officer system is nice, it's a lot easier to level, and they've tweaked a bunch of missions. But if you didn't like it at launch you might not like it now.

My operative had all orange cunning gear... I didn't have a healing companion before I jumped ship but I did have self heals to some extent. Taking out an elite was difficult, and two 'strong' enemies could almost finish us. It just felt like I was getting lucky and barely scraping by when I was grinding. I never really had any sense of power except for the first few levels. Was never impressed with the talent trees. I hate sinking points into talents that make another ability 1% more effective.

The operative storyline was really, really good. REALLY GOOD. I played dark side and pretty much every quest ended with me shooting someone in the face. I will say the writing is excellent

I think that you have swtor confused with another game. The missions are fantastically done in swtor. The class storylines have been amazing for smuggler, inquisitor and bounty hunter. Even the basic leveling missions have voiced cutscenes that require choices and interaction from the player.

I do think the game is beautiful, but I think that people who care about textures don't belong in a Bioware game. I mean, yeah, it can have difficulties zoomed in, but Bioware has ALWAYS been about substance over flash. I have yet to see an "unplayable" bug - I many characters past 30 and they are all doing fine. If you find that you can't play because of your mechanics, I would assert that you are using crappy mechanics.

Anyway, I did create the site just to spread some swtor love, that's it. I'd love to update the site every few days so that there are many panoramas from all over the universe in a while.

Flavivirus: I have yet to see an "unplayable" bug - I many characters past 30 and they are all doing fine.

My trooper got to 50 with no issues, but my sorc can no longer advance her storyline past Balmorra unless a CSR intervenes. For some reason, one of my older completed storyline quests popped back into existence, and is asking me to use my personal holocom to talk to someone who is already dead. This would not be a serious issue, since I could just ignore the icon on my screen. Unfortunately, my current storyline quest is also asking me to use my personal holocom, and when activated the holocom prioritizes the older bugged and un-completable quest.

So my sorc is retired until I hear from a CSR.

Well that is an incredible bug. Unplayable even. My condolences. Obviously I've had nothing of the sort but there's no two ways around that one. Hopefully CSR intervenes.

its first appearance was in the Dark Empire comic book in 1991. It was a location in most of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight FPS games from 1995 on, so it's a very familiar place to some.

Not confused. Just saw STO mentioned and figured I'd ask about it.

Currently looking forward to Guild Wars 2. I really like the idea of no subscription fees and got plenty of hours of enjoyment of the first game.

Since you've dedicated the sort of time in putting together the website, I wouldn't figure you'd dislike the game, and I'm not surprised that you'd defend it. To each their own. IMO it needs a hell of a lot more work before it's ready, and I'm sick if beta testing it. Your patience for a video game surpasses mine

Yeah - for sure I put my bias out there. Everything I want in an MMO, it does well. I don't care about a lot of the things that people aren't enjoying. The sorc bug above would piss me off though! To me it's a great Bioware game, but that's what it is! It does what bioware does.

Right now it's a virtual photography simulator for me anyway! So, yeah, I might not be in the norm.

I originally made the site to make some desktop backgrounds for myself but was blown away by the quality - I hate the low textures on zoom-in game time, but damn if I don't find this game beautiful.

I absolutely love this game.

I just finished the Bounty Hunter story line, and unlike most MMOs, I want to reroll a new class and play their story line. To understand how big of a change that is for me, I've played WoW since 2005. And every time, on my account, I've only had 1 max level character (2 for Cata). I just hate creating alts.

But TOR makes me want to play them all. I think I'm going to make a Smuggler next, just to see his story line. Or a Jedi.

TOO MANY CHOICES.

I haven't found it to be any more buggy than WoW was at launch. Obviously, peoples milage may vary, and I confess I've been playing solo. I like it, though I'm not sure if I'll actually get all six characters I've started to level 50.

The problem is that characters/skills are really buggy. Mostly in ways that seriously impact character viability. They're not really very obvious bugs for the most part, but ones that make characters like defensive melee characters completely useless.
