The directors cut is good for Almost Famous. There is more scenes when he was young.

List totally fails with "The Abyss." That film is completely different in the director's cut.

List utterly fails without Brazil. It's practically what started the whole director's cut phenomenon.

/Also, the DC of The Return of the King was better than TT, because it included Sauruman's death.

Mugato: Did they actually explain what happened to Sauroman in the LOTR director's cut? I can't imagine there are actually longer versions of those movies.

And yes, the Blade Runner version without the voiceover and the happy ending with b-roll footage from The Shining was better, even though it suggested that Deckard was a replicant, which is stupid.

In ROTK, the very beginning they took out what I believe what should have been a scene left in that ties up nicely. See the Link.

Another vote for Kingdom of Heaven. The Director's Cut is just a totally different movie - and much, much better. A true experience.

All 3 LOTR films are vastly improved with the expanded versions. PJ deliberately shot more than he knew would be acceptable for in-theater, but it was material that needed to be in there. What TFA says about the Two Towers is right, but similar improvements in all 3.

Blade Runner: wrong. The endless BS revisions actually diminish the original. One charm of the original is the question of how we can understand personal identity, and what memory is. But the idea that Deckard actually _is_ a replicant is incoherent, and the more Scott messes with the film to push that interpretation, the worse it gets. Why are there Blade Runners at all? Because they don't want replicants on Earth. So Blade Runners _being_ replicants is sort of self-defeating. Plus, Deckard feels pain, and gets his ass handed to him, so no.

Also: List fails without director's cut of Watchmen.

Never even heard of Until the End of the World - MUST find a copy and looks like I need the 280 minute directors cut version. Anyone have a clue where I can find one?

this is one of my 10 favorite movies of all time, and I love how much better it is, I think any movie fan should own it, but I would really hesitate to call it a director's cut.

I'd have the restored versions of Spartacus and Lawrence of Arabia.

The restored version of Spartacus includes the oysters/snails scene with Crassus and Antoninus, which explains precisely why Antoninus is getting the hell out of Crassus' place.

And yeah, The Abyss.

I agree that Deckard not being a replicant works better in almost every way. To me the whole point was that in the end, Roy was "more human than human" in that he spared Deckard's life while Deckard was more of a machine in that he was an emotionless killer. But I still prefer the version without the Sam Spade narration and the happy ending.

I agree with you about the final scene with Roy. I actually liked the voice-over. Since the whole feel of the film is neo-noir, having a noir voiceover works for me.

I can't watch the theatrical release of the Abyss. What the studio did to it is a travesty.

I can't watch the theatrical cuts of the LotR's movies either. Not because they're not well done. But because once you've seen the director's cuts, there's simply no going back.

I knew I'd seen that in the movie! I was watching it a friend's place recently (the original version), and I got confused when they didn't have the sentry guns. I started wondering if I'd juxtaposed them from another movie. Glad to know I was remembering correctly.

Star Trek:TMP and Hellboy have already been covered. So I'll just add Troy to the list.

List should include the Ben Affleck Daredevil. The theater release was absolute crap, while the director's cut is one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen. Just a phenomenal lesson in the power of editing and studio interference. They are literally two different movies.
