See? that's just ONE example of how environmentally friendly FD's have become. Much better for the environment than sending hot lead everywhere.

When I was young we had a cat that liked to sit on top of a telephone pole. She could sit up there for hours just watching the neighborhood. It was pretty cool seeing her climb down backwards until she was about 10 feet from the ground then jump.

My Brother-in-law is a retained fireman as well as working in the command centre.

On the occasions that he takes a "cat stuck in tree" call, he asks the caller if they have ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree.

If he is out with the appliance and it turns out to be a cat stuck in a tree, he's more likely to get the hose than the ladder...

Well, we've been under a lot of financial strain the past few years...so our mindset is pretty solidly in the "leverage" mode. This got us two birds with one stone (no pun intended)...we got the cat down, and watered the owner's lawn/tree at the same time.

Efficiency at work there, folks.

Sometimes there are no current emergencies in range of a firehouse and a fireman has nothing better to do. It's not like they can be instantly be anywhere in the world saving human beings from lethal disasters that are no doubt occurring every minute somewhere.

What appliance did he get? I usually got the crock pot.

No you don't see cat skeletons in trees but cats DO fall out. My daughter adopted to rescue kittens and when they were young one of them was especially adventurous and would climb up WAY too high and have no freakin idea how to get down. He wandered out onto the ever smaller maple branches and wouldn't back up. My daughter was pretty much in tears as she could see him about to lose his balance, which he did, and hung on for a couple of seconds and then plunged about 20'. He would have landed right on a pile of rocks but despite being a computer geek with zero sports background or skills I deftly caught him

how many cat skeletons do you find in trees?
well the only one i have found was the result of birds picking up roadkill cat parts. haven't seen any dead cats in trees.

the cats in trees and firefighters meme never made much since to me. even as a kid. i know for a fact the local fire department won't do a thing about cats, but they will give you the number of the power company or tree services if there is a need. often by the time they get there the cat has gotten it self down. most cats figure it out. in addition to that if somebody does try and get a cat down the thing ends up jumping out most of the time as the person tries to catch it.

cats need rescued from trees like ducks need swimming lessons.

THIS. Cats are natural climbers, they are the free runners of domesticated animals. Some can climb trees without their front claws.

I remember my cat used to literally run down out of trees, head first. Of course, he also caught a bird in less than 30 seconds the first time he figured out how to lift the cover on the dog door, so maybe he was just a natural outdoors cat.

Lets not forget that no good deed goes unpunished. We'll see the followup story when the city bills the owner of Googly for the truck roll.

I work for a tree removal company and we got a call to take a cat out of a tree because the local FD said they just washed the trucks.

FTFA: At the homeowners request, a ladder truck responded and brought the cat down safely from the tree. A meal of dried food was waiting for it.
