I've also set up my own religious cult, dabbled in necromancy, corrupted a jedi padawan into my service (after killing her teachers), lied, cheated, murdered my teacher (that was was self defense tho) and enslaved a giant walking lizard like monster to be my bodyguard. the sith inquisitor class quest chain is....not kind. you do horrible things to everyone around you. the ONE romance option i've found had to do with me finding a street urchin, raising her to be my cult leader, sleeping with her...then walking away laughing after seducing her.

Eh. There's no factional good guy or bad guy. It's more of a Grey and Grey Morality in the game. The Republic and the Empire both do some pretty dickish things along the course of the storyline, and depending on the choices of the player in quests, the Empire is just as heroic, although xenophobic, as the Republic is.
