I actually am. The amazing thing is that I've never received an intelligent answer to my question which I've asked numerous times here on FARK. Every time I ask it I'm immediately inundated with ad hominem attacks, followed by secondary arguments, then a few snarky jokes and then thread slowly winds down and dies. Sometimes people in a business where name recognition counts will give themselves a name that's less likely to be stumbled over, and less likely to provoke unpredictable reactions from nitwits and morons.

There are thousands upon thousands of people in show business who have changed their names, and guess what? Not all of them are jewish. Stunning, ain't it?

You know, there is this thing called Wikipedia that provides details about why he changed his name.

He began using the stage name "Jon Stewart" by dropping his last name and changing the spelling of his middle name "Stuart" to "Stewart." He often jokes this is because people had difficulty with the pronunciation of Leibowitz or it "sounded too Hollywood" (a reference to Lenny Bruce's joke on the same theme). He has implied that the name change was actually due to a strained relationship with his father with whom Stewart no longer has any contact.

As for why you perceive that a lot of Jews change their names, perhaps you might bring it up with someone who is Jewish, like Tatsuma.

I was responding to bigpeeler's claim that Jews change their last name a lot.

I actually don't know.

I do know that in the 1920s when my grandparents arrived,

A) They had to sit in Mexico for over a year because US borders were closed to Jews.
B) When they came in, they were given an "ellis island" name that was a frequent cause for misunderstanding or embarrassment.
C) They faced covenants in where they could buy houses.

My parents had covenants on their houses too. Technically, they could not buy in that subdivision of Los Angeles.

So no, Mugato, I don't know why people change their names. No clue at all.

It wasn't until I was in college did I learn that he used to hang out with punks and metal heads and even wait at a punk club when he was in his 20s. Apparently he was good friends with some of the guys in GWAR for a period.
