Silly subby

/where did you think frozen orange juice came from?

But what of Belgian tacos?!?!?

The Food and Drug Administration said Friday that it had detained orange juice shipments from Canada after they tested positive for low levels of a banned fungicide previously found in Brazilian juice.

Damn, can't choose between:

If it's already in so many juices, what does one more matter?

or

How much juice do you get from a Brazilian anyway?

"The samples that have tested positive so far had carbendazim levels of between 10 and 52 parts per billion. The Environmental Protection Agency says carbendazim levels under 80 parts per billion do not raise safety concerns"

mmm kay

ban that shiat, they don't raise safety concerns !!!

Does this mean orange juice is gonna go up to like $10 a gallon?

2012-01-28 03:35:56 AM
I wish I had a nickel for every time I tested positive for a banned fungicide.

2012-01-28 03:38:36 AM
So whats the political motivation here, because the article even states that the same agency doing the testing ( finding 10-52 parts per billion ) says that less than 80 ppb poses no health risks.

So if they pose no health risks why are they being held up? whats the motivation here... Follow the money...

2012-01-28 03:45:39 AM
Ha! They are trying to sell us foods covered in that fungicide we sold them, lolz!

Probably because America is one of the largest orange growers in the world, last I saw it was THE largest, but idk, things change.

It's the same old "we can't compete" bullshiat Canadians have seen before, and it's why we'd rather sell our lumber, for instance, to Asia these days.

Let's see, I get my beef, maple syrup, and a bunch of summer vegetables from my in-laws. If they had an orange tree I'd be all set.

Read the article again.

The FDA is blocking the juice. The EPA says a little bit won't hurt you.

Orange juice is a crappy juice anyway. It's all sweet and no interesting. Fruit juice needs some natural bitterness to balance it out.

As a Canadian, I'm not aware of a single orange grove in the country. I presume it's imported, processed, and re exported in order to give it a patina of being above board for the us market.

Yeah, I think that's exactly his point. The EPA has made this information clear, what are the FDA's true motives in blocking it?

It's back bacon. A different cut of bacon, from the back of the pig. Our bacon (which they also refer to as simply "bacon") is cut from the pig's belly.

sub-lime, huh. Grapefruit is beneath limes? I don't think so. On the hierarchy of citrus fruits it's like this: Very bottom is limes (nothing is ever sub-limes); next is oranges and they are followed by grapefruit.

I don't wanna argue about the other citrus fruits . . . they're pretty much niche fruits.

This.

It just smacks of the U.S. governing bodies trying their damndest to scare the public into only buying American made brands to boost the economy/secure jerbs.

People are stupid.
A good government wants its people to buy its shiat, and wants other countries to also buy its shiat.
Its like a Taurus.

It doesn't matter what the govt does if we the people started buying local products when applicable and American products when applicable. Exports are great and all but we do need to support our local industries and businesses in order to maintain jobs.

That logic would imply that American companies weren't moving their labor overseas to get it cheaper. But if you're talking small time mom and pop stuff, I'm all for it.

It's also a tiny island in the northumberland strait it's cold windy and usually unpleasant for most of the year, It's only nice for the a tiny window of time. Not exactly prime Orange grove country.

Yeah, I thought so.

I can't think of a single legitimate reason we should be importing any orange juice from Canada.

And that's precisely because there is no such thing as Canadian orange juice. And what possible legitimate reason is there to import something that is obviously only in Canada and being exported as an end-run around an import restriction that would apply to its actual country of origin?

We should permanently ban imports of Canadian orange juice, or at least until such time as global warming allows oranges to be grown in Canada.

No, quite the opposite.

The rest of EU did it to british beef. The brits had held the name for best beef for centuries, which prompted the rest of europe to gang up and decide to release weaponized BSE via the channel tunnel to stop having to go through airports which have snifferdogs.

Then the same smear campaign tactics were most recently used to try to reduce the foothold of the ecological farming industries of europe, by poisoning a whole batch of cucumbers in an attempt to sterilise all female green-supporters, in full knowledge that even thicker latex was porous enough to let through enough of the pathogen to at least give sever uteral discomfert.

It's always political. Youmark my word!!
