Jeez you're not wrong subby. Spitting image.

Glad they left that out of the final take though. Added nothing to the song.

Here's an interesting cover of it by the metalish band Ghost (new window)

Easily one of the best finds on the intertubes! Great job, Subby. I see 25-50 'fresh' videos a day (Fark, Wimp, Leenks, Popurls) and this was a treat for this old cynic.

That's a remarkable video, and not just because of the found sound. Thanks, subby.

And while we're linking to covers, here's my favorite:

If you haven't seen it, watch Concert for George.

That film is an emotional roller coaster and a musical journey and it never fails to lift my spirits.

Maybe it was me but I didn't hear a solo in there. I heard a lead riff on an electric. George was the most talented one. The rest you can keep.

THIS.

normally, i hate, hate, HATE those prince's trust-type mega-concerts, but this one is truly magical. i own the DVD set and watch it every couple of years. mccartney's performance of "something," when the whole band comes in, is a spine-chillingly awesome highlight (of many)

Me too. In fact, that performance inspired me to take up the ukulele just so I could play Something. And a dream come true-in a couple of weeks, I get to play it at a George Harrison tribute show here locally. McCartney's opening is great-when Clapton comes in with the lead, I always get chills. Harrison wrote some of the most beautiful and melodic songs I've ever heard.

I own 5 different copies of that album. Original cd, remastered cd, original pressing of vinyl, remastered pressing of vinyl, reissue of vinyl. (Yes, they all sound different.) But, rarely do I hear something entirely new on that album.

Thank you.

There's a lot of reasons to love George---his talent, his class, his attitude, his sense of humor. I always felt this clip from Rutland Television summed all of those up pretty well

George was always my favorite Beatle. Underrated songwriter, too; Lennon and McCartney wrote some amazing songs, of course, but they also wrote a lot of songs that were mediocre to bad. I can't think of a single song Harrison wrote for the Beatles that was worse than pretty damn good. Honestly, if I had to pick either Here Comes the Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps or the entire Lennon/McCartney ouevre, and give up the other choice forever, I would go for George's tunes.

2 for 3. This is the third song I'm doing at the Harrison tribute-sandwiched between Something on the uke and For You Blue. Always have loved this song since I first watched the Rutles TV specials. Even have a Rutles 8-track around here somewhere.

I agree, it is a "must have" for fans of George. I also liked watching all the behind the scenes rehearsal footage. What I think is really amazing about that concert is Marc Mann. He was given all Georges guitar parts during the songs. Sure the "Stars" were showcased but watch him. Most of George's leads were covered by Marc. He must be highly regarded in the music industry even if he isn't famous. Could you imagine what it was like for him. Clapton must have called him up and asked if he wanted to play key parts of Beatle songs with the surviving Beatles on stage with him. In addition, his widow and son were there too. Now that is a lot of pressure but what a story for the grandkids.

\Subby - I'm glad people enjoyed it.

Another vote for "A Concert for George," and I'm not much of a Beatles fan.

This concert was INCREDIBLE to watch. I was fascinated by the indian music, and it was nice seeing George's friends have so much fun with his music.

The best moment for me was "Isn't It A Pity" - goosebumps, I tell ya - GOOSEBUMPS.

Speaking of George Harrision and goosebumps, the 2004 RR HoF jam was amazing to watch - best part is about 4:45 in, when Prince falls into the crowd and is held up while still playing - that guy can flat out PLAY GUITAR. I love that Tom Petty looks all put out while Dhani Harrison is just LOVING it!

I admit to watching this clip about once every month, and when it's done asking myself "why is it I try to play guitar again?" Prince just kills it.

The other cool thing about that clip and the Concert for George is Dhani-he just seems like he's very grounded, playing with all these legendary musicians, and just looks like he's having a blast playing guitar and singing harmonies.

I like both of them. These, however, more accurately fit the bill:

"Don't Bother Me"
"You Like Me Too Much"
"Think for Yourself"
"If I Needed Someone"
"Love You To"
"Within You Without You"
"Long, Long, Long"
"Savoy Truffle"

That is a great find -- very nice to hear. Dhani is a very talented guy, and the nicest -- really nicest -- person you will ever meet. Met him when he was doing a record store tour with Ben Harper and Fistful of Mercy last year, and he (and Ben) were patient and engaged with the crowd. I was very impressed. And in person, he looks even MORE like his dad.

yup, didn't really add anything to it, but it was neat to hear nonetheless.

I wish the synth was higher in the mix on the album version though.

It was at the old Hit Factory for the recording of the original broadway cast of The Who's To mmy. I was there the entire day but only spent about two hours in the booth. Sir George was pretty quiet but there was no question he was who he was.

Mostly I spent the day getting hammered and watching MTV with Pete Townsend.

QFT.

For all the flack Prince has gotten over the years, his musical talent is the one thing no one can argue against.

His live solo on Purple Rain in the rain at the Super Bowl several years ago was truly amazing, as well.

pfft... the Beatles are okay I guess.. they're no Wyld Stallyns, I'll tell you that much.

I do like George Harrison though. quite, understated genius.
