It's amusing to me how social conservatives here, in the U.S., can readily spot the relation between ignorance, lack of education and/or low intelligence and how other cultures tend toward social conservatism but are completely incapable of spotting that relation in their own lives.

Well, we are talking the reasons behind social conservative stances.

Take abortion for example.

Lots of people really hate abortion. A smart way of addressing this and decreasing the abortion rate is to increase the availability of birth control, as well as sexual education classes.

Unfortunately, if the response of the Republicans in Congress and the support they receive is any measure, the general way social conservatives want to address this is by banning abortion, and decreasing the availability of birth control and women's health services.

It is mind bogglingly and pants on head retarded to try and decrease demand for a service by taking actions that increase demand for said service, as well as pushing that service underground through prohibition.
