Take everything thats great about MK and throw it out the window and you have MK vs DC. In otherwords its considered one of the worst games in the Franchise. Buy the new Mk if you are going to buy anything

Alright... but as someone who doesn't play fighting games, who only wants something that's fun to play, even if it's not "like" the rest of the MK franchise, is it worthwhile?

I mean, is its biggest fault that it's not "MK" enough, or is it just a bad game?

Christ, Keiji Inafune must have screwed some Capcom execs mothers and wives or something. They cancel all Mega Man games, and then this? They really are trying to burn all bridges. The Blue Bomber deserves better.

It's just a bad game. Controls are clunky, moves stink, unbalanced. They could do better.

And I agree, a Marvel vs. DC crossover game (w/ Capcom's developers) would be freaking AWESOME.

If you're not that big a fan of fighting games you could do worse. It's not as good as the new Mortal Kombat but if you are a fan of DC it's pretty cool to play as Batman and beat up Scorpion. Plus, you'll probably find it at a gamestop for like 10 bucks.

Both. The violence was toned down to get a T rating, which kind of ruins the fun of doing fatalities in the game. The controls and character movements are both kind of clunky and slow. It may be worth a rental to find out for yourself. It's kind of amusing to beat the hell out of Batman with everyone.

The new Mortal Kombat has much better controls. Plus it's nice and gory, like MK is supposed to be.

The special moves are more like happy accidents rather than anything you actually have control over.

Who cares about the metagame, where one character can have a profound impact on the entire state of game balance? Let's put random characters in each version of the game just to piss all the long-time players off!

Surool: Games are entertainment and they are only about getting money for the publishers, Everyone who buys Street Fighter games will still buy this game.

Games are entertainment, no crap. That's what skilled players (the players who are capable of deriving the most entertainment value from the games, since they can create the greatest range of skilled outcomes) are looking at: The entertainment value of the game. And in this particular case, they're looking at the inclusion of random characters as a means of fan service and product exclusivity and are expressing concerns over whether or not Capcom gives a crap about the character design and the game balance, the two things that provide the longest-lasting and most satisfying entertainment experience that can be found in the fighting game genre, or most genres for that matter. They value depth over fan service. And they have every reason to be concerned, because in the recent history of the publisher's fighting game catalog, we've found that Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have been inferior games when compared to their predecessors.

But since you "video games aren't to be taken seriously" and "games are entertainment", I don't expect you to think about any of that. You seem to think that people will keep buying these games anyway, but fifteen years ago, real-time strategy games, Japanese Role-Playing Games, and platformers ruled the world. You don't hear a whole bunch about any of those games anymore. Let Capcom keep screwing things up and keep pushing themselves into mediocrity. I'm obviously not going to cast a final judgment on Street Fighter X Tekken, but it looks like they're making the kinds of mistakes that fighting game developers absolutely should not be making right now, and should accept that their genre is not nearly as conducive to DLC, particularly when it involves chunks of the game that are critical to game balance.

Surool: 1/10 because I responded at all, and because I didn't think Fark had any 12 year olds signed up.

I read that last line... I'm sure it's the only one worth reading.

Nothing to piss about. There is not debate to be had. You obviously take games way to seriously and are very much at extreme Trekkie/Star Wars fanboi level. I'm sure that in person, you are actually psycho enough to threaten physical violence over the inclusion of these characters as an optional unlock on a single platform. It never occurs to somebody as mentally mired as you are to simply shrug your shoulders and NOT PLAY the characters you don't like. You must scream from every rooftop crying to everyone who will listen that the game publisher did something you personally didn't like. Meanwhile, most people go on with their lives and Capcom still makes the same amount of money as if you weren't whining and stamping your feet about it. Enjoy your big cup of I-don't-give-a-f*ck.

There is nothing that you can educate me about. I am only commenting about you, and your insistence on posting without taking your medication. There is nothing you can educate me about unless you count getting your panties in a bunch over something the programmers and artists don't take as seriously as you do.

Capcom will not fail with this game, no matter how much crying you do.

Surool: There is nothing that you can educate me about.

lol

Surool: I am only commenting about you, and your insistence on posting without taking your medication.

You came into a discussion thread on a hobby and made a statement that their hobby is not meant to be taken seriously, and that it is an entertainment medium. I made a reply stating the thought process that people who know the hobby go through when they attempt to determine whether or not their entertainment medium and a product within that medium is worth taking seriously. You seem to think that makes me nuts, which is wrong. It just makes me knowledgeable about the design philosophy of the games. Now, it may stun you that I'm capable of looking at video games critically, and dissecting the systems with a fairly proficient eye, but that doesn't make me nuts.

Surool: over something the programmers and artists don't take as seriously as you do.

If they don't take it seriously, then they're terrible at their jobs, because I just very briefly outlined the thought process that comes with adding exclusive characters into multiple versions of one fighting game. And no, they're not obliged to "not play that character", because there is a term in the fighting game community for that: It is called a "scrub", a person who makes imaginary rules for how the game should be played without having first allowed experts to subject the game to considerable scrutiny. And in the case of platform-exclusive characters, most of what I know about them is that they tend to suck (Gon and Doctor B. in Tekken 3, Yoda in Soul Calibur 4, etc.) and their presence is usually better spent on making the other characters more fun to play. And if they should somehow manage to be broken, that can end up being a huge problem. If they have to ban a character, then they usually end up playing a different game, anyway. (See: The three-and-a-half years the Smash Brothers community desperately tried to make MetaKnight fit in Brawl and then very grudgingly accepted that he had to be banned.) People won't ditch the game because Character X is in it, but if they purchase the game because Super Sekrit Character Y is an exclusive, then they're just stupid. If Capcom actually cares about making the best game possible (the one that will make people return to buy the next game), then making a good game is going to be more beneficial than wasting time on silly gimmicks.

Surool: Capcom will not fail with this game, no matter how much crying you do.

Sounds like something Capcom's board of directors would have said in 1993 right before releasing Mega Man 6. Keiji Inafune wishes you wouldn't say that.

I have two game systems and play regularly. I finish games and have fun. Would it hurt your little feelings to know that people making X-Box games don't take this stupid sh*t as seriously as you do? They still make staggeringly successful games without your mentally unhinged hyper focus.

And, don't worry, I can tell that you have posted way too much breathless twaddle to be a regular troll.

I had fun with it, and it's certainly not the worst MK game.

But the newest MK is way better in every imaginable way.
