The Scots make better whisky, the music is only liked by aforementioned white people who travel to Ireland to find their "roots" and most Irish redheads are fat.

Well, that's typical. Everything is so PC these days. In my day we called them what they were, worthless drunken micks who should have never been allowed over here with their wifebeating, pope-worshipping ways. Put 'em in the Paddy wagon where they belong I say.

I have been to the St. Patty's Day parade in Hoboken at least twice. And both times was awful.
I refuse to go now although I get an invite from some Hobokener or another every year. I don't understand the appeal at all. It is five times worse than NYC St. Pattys Day, Cinco de Mayo, and a bad fraternity party combined.

To be fair, American Micks are a lot more fun. And we Americans make better whiskey as well. And we make stellar redheads. To be fair, Boston and New York Irish probably kept the IRA funded a long ways beyond it natural lifespan. Admit it: American Micks are the superior Micks by

Well, me boyo, even into the 60's there were signs places stating " Irish need not apply". That could be why we have a persecution complex; or it could be that the English have only recently stopped their 1000 year effort to exterminate the Irish. You know, either or.
We got a lot going for us; we're tough as hell, we drink like fish and we fight like lions. We may be the descendents of drunks and horse thieves; but we're damn proud of it.

That's so gawddamn true. I have a friend who just named her child a VERY Irish name that she says displays this child's "Irish roots".
Never mind the fact that child isn't even a quarter Irish (with the rest being Welsh, English, Italian), and is 3rd or 4th generation American.

The Irish were actually not considered white back in the 1800's. They were usually depicted as red for their binge drinking and anger.

Honest question, no snark intended:
Why do a lot of Americans self-identify with whatever country their ancestors came from? (or pick one ancestor to identify with) I spoke to a guy in Phoenix who told me he was Scottish - in as much as one of his great-grandfathers came from Scotland. How many generations is the gap before someone self-identifies as American?
