Uh huh. And look how much good it did: now the remaining few Americans who didn't think Texas was full of ignorant dumbass rednecks have been converted.

Thanks a lot Perry. You asshole.

This.

If anything, Perry should be paying Texas extra for the damage he did to their already fragile reputation.

1.1 million would have bought 55,137 year long subscriptions to Texas Highway magazine

2012-01-27 01:42:44 PM
Thanks to Perry, I've renewed my "never step foot between Austin and the Texas border" pledge.

2012-01-27 01:43:16 PM
Of course he was showing off their new motto.

"Texas: Look What 20 years of Conservative Policies Have Gotten Us."

2012-01-27 01:44:20 PM
Oh, he promoted something alright...

2012-01-27 01:44:22 PM
Perry made us look like a bunch of assholes. We should sue for defamation of character.

Maybe you guys could run him out of the state on a rail like the good ol' days. He would appreciate a thing like that.

He was promoting stupidity, anyway.

Well, I think you can draw your own conclusion.

Unless you're a Texan, of course

Rick Perry stars in Rick Perry's "Oh No You Didn't 2012" a documentary on Rick Perry's presidential run starring Rick Perry, featuring Rick Perry, a Rick Perry production. RICK PERRY!

My letter to his royal jackholeness:

Dear sir,

I recently read on: http://www.wfaa.com/news/politics/Texas-bills-mounting-for-Perrys-secu rity-detail-138202184.html that you cost us quite a lot of money in your bid for the presidency. Your claim that you shouldn't have to pay us back because you promote Texas wherever you go is ridiculous. You made us all look like a bunch of ignorant assholes. Pay us back.

2012-01-27 01:50:04 PM
If by "Texas" he means "ignorance and stupidity" (which is pretty darn close to accurate) then he's right.

2012-01-27 01:50:21 PM
Of course you libs are up in arms about Perry's security costs, but nobody makes a fuss at all about N0bama's $2B trip to India. He should have just mailed each Indian two dollars and saved the time, and we'd have gotten the same goodwill. And I don't even know why we had to go to them anyhow--after all that fuss about getting their land stolen by the paleface (nevermind all the free booze and blankets and the ability to run great casinos nowadays), you think they'd want to come back and visit.

I grew up during and just following Dolph Briscoe's turn as governor. Dude added $4,000,000,000 to education without raising taxes. That's Billion with a "B." It was a great time to be in public school in Texas, even if I didn't start until Clements was governor, the money Briscoe had put into the schools was being put to some really cool uses. I went to one of the first "magnet" schools in the state (it's not a magnet school anymore and wasn't really by the modern definition, but they were still experimenting with the idea back then) and we were able to do a lot of things that more traditional schools weren't thanks to that money.

/we had a tree house in our classroom. No shiat, a friggin tree house.

That is a trap. I offer money, you'll play the man of honor and take umbrage; I ask you to do what is right and you'll play the brigand. I have no stomach for games.

I'd settle for getting him out of the governor's office. Ever since W. beat Richards it's been just stupid. You know that the only people living in the governor's mansion since 1995 have been former male cheerleaders? WTF? We're supposed to be such a manly state. And we keep electing these effeminate idiots with chips on their shoulders and heads full of bad policy. I love living here, but I don't much care for the morons I share my state with.

If he traveled with more than one car and more than one guard, he should pay that back.

I don't begrudge a sitting governor his security. However, a single taxpayer-funded guard (or two, even, if you're as much of an asshole as Parry is) should be more than enough.

All that security is for making Parry FEEL important. Or feed his victimhood complex.

// Easterbrook's argument, and he's more right than wrong

Did you ever hear Louis CK's bit about the Native American thing? It's freaking hilarious.

"Hey, you guys must be Indians! Hello!"

"No, we're not Indians."

"This isn't India?"

"No."

"So...you guys aren't Indians?"

"No."

"Yeah, you're Indians!"

I was going to say the same thing, with a "representative" like Perry, the state has definitely slid even farther backward than it already had before...

Full? I understand that it looks that way, given Perry's election record, but Texas is actually full of (in descending order):

1. Empty space
2. People whose exposure to the internet is limited to links in chain emails
3. Cattle
4. Everyone else

To be fair, the male cheerleaders are the ones at the base of the pyramid, and that means plenty of time to look up those skirts. And you get to go to all the games, but not get hurt on the field, so you spend even more time chatting the girls up. It's essentially a job for guys who want to be there, but not have to do the hard stuff.

Which pretty much sums up the folks that Texas keeps sending to office, since the Lt. Governor has to do the hard stuff anyway...

If you like German food and culture, the hill country is fantastic, and beautiful. Also, Austin rules. Dallas is a great place to work, and is a surprisingly cosmopolitan city. Ft. Worth can be a lot of fun, the Bass Performance Hall is lovely, and I was lucky enough to see George Carlin there on what turned out to be his farewell tour. There's lots to recommend this place. The only problem is the assholes. Assholes strewn liberally about the state, farting their rancid opinions into the air at an alarming rate and generally stinking up the place.

What can you do?

2012-01-27 02:33:04 PM
Is this a roundabout way of asking for a 1.1 M$ bribe to go away and never bother us again? Because in that context I'm tempted to support that.

Lost Thought 00: Thanks to Perry, I've renewed my "never step foot between Austin and the Texas border" pledge.

The only part of Texas that are routinely that stupid and ascribe to that brand of fundie lunacy is the set of counties bordering southern Oklahoma. The cities are about like cities everywhere and the rest of the rural areas are more "genteel old south" and less "deliverance"-- you'll get a narrow-eyed look of disapproval if you constantly bring up atheism and abortion in conversation, and there's always that that one farking nutball that annoys everyone with the proselytizing, but largely the form of old school that prevails includes the rules of hospitality so no one farks with the visitors.

If you actually _move_ to a deep rural area, sure, you're going to be annoyed half to death on a regular basis as a standard-issue leftie, especially if you get involved in local government. But, in fairness to us, local government can go fark itself basically everywhere.
