It was on eBay before.

Wow. That's worse than stashing millions in off-shore accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands

The driver seat is full of trapped presidential farts!

2012-01-27 11:11:34 AM
With no presidential connection, it would be worth about $20,000 as a used car.

$20k for a 2007 300C?! I'll give you $11k.

This makes McCain retroactively president for life.

Well that settles it. I'm voting for Gingromney!

Nobody who leases a car should be in charge of the economy.

Nice that they point out the seller (not the owner) is a life long Reaganite who is 'in it for the money'.

The car is a stock late-model Chrysler

No, it's not. It's a 2005 model year, built in 2004.

A "late model car" is a car which has been recently designed or manufactured, often the latest model.

The President is not "In charge of the economy".
People who flunked Civics 101 shouldn't vote.

If by "coincidence" you mean "after he took flak for not driving a more fuel-efficient car" then yes, it was a coincidence. Otherwise, no it was completely deliberate and connected.

I'll pass, I'm waiting for Jon Voight's LeBaron to come back on the market instead.

I doubt he drove it much, so leasing may have made sense.

People with money often lease cars. It's not a bad deal if you would have been buying new cars every 2 years anyway.

Its not really stashing if everyone knows where they are and you paid taxes on it.........

If it's the v8 Hemi and not the V6 then it gets terrible mileage. I own a 2005 Dodge Magnum which is practically the same car and I get about 10MPG city driving.

jso2897: The President is not supposed to be "In charge of the economy".

By that logic, the President has to actually get Congress to declare war to start a war.

What matters a lot more than the way things are supposed to work is the way they actually work. Sadly, executive power to screw up the economy is quite large.

Hmm, he leased a 2005 model year car and turned it in in 2007. That cold simply be the entire term of a 36 or 40 month lease. The horror!

I would love to own this, a true piece of history. And why does the headline crack on Obama for switching to a hybrid? Was he supposed to have been driving an electric vehicle forever, like the rest of us?

I don't get the appeal. It's still a used Chrysler which is going to have problems. Good luck to the sucker that buys this. rewardslink.info

It might be that after 19,000 miles, he was tired of the poor build quality and unexplained squeaks.

Nope, that could never happen....

/I don't dislike American cars but Chrysler is still lacking compared to the others.

The mid-90s through mid-00s, Benz-era Chryslers were electronic hell on wheels. Sad that two mechanical engineering temples of greatness have struggled so with bytes and transistors.

BMFPitt: Nobody who leases a car should be in charge of the economy.

What? For many people, leasing a car makes better sense. Effectively, you are not paying for the ownership of the car, but for the car's depreciation cost. It is a better deal if you know with high certainty how many miles you plan to drive each year, and not go higher than a certain threshold. In a two-car household, I've often seen the leased car used for work commute and the purchased car as both the family vehicle and the spouse's work commute, to control the miles and minimize cost. The money saved on a hefty down payment for a car purchase could be used in a low-risk investment vehicle, so you come out with more money in the end. Finally, I know of people who plan to move out of country after a few years and didn't want to deal with the hassle of selling a car, and leasing made better sense for them.

Hate to go against the preconceived, somewhat dated Chrysler hate, but I have an '06 300C AWD that I bought used two years ago. Zero problems, high trade in value, smooth ride, endless torque...I think I'll hang onto it.

Every 300C I see around here is driven by an early-20s male poser who puts big cheap wheels on it and blasts rap out of the stock speakers.

Comedian Kat Williams had a great joke about that in his Pimp Chronicles stand-up (it's on Netflix). Went something along the line of how young people buy Chrysler 300s because they look like Rolls Royce Phantoms. But when an actual Phantom rolls up next to the Chrysler 300 driver at a stoplight, the driver cries, "I don't wanna be on this street no more!" Pretty funny.

BMFPitt: Nobody who leases a car should be in charge of the economy.

People who learned everything they know about money management from their mom's bits of wisdom shouldn't comment on other people's economic choices.

Leasing makes substantial sense in many cases. In my case, for example, my five year lease + buyout is only costing me about $300 more in total than if I'd just bought it on loan in the first place and my payment for the first three years was nearly $70 lower than it would have been otherwise.

Having an extra $70/month for 36 months that I can invest in my IRA now versus paying an extra $300 later? Yes, please.

Making overall smart monetary decisions doesn't just involve paying as little possible on every payment you make.

It may have made "sense" to them from a less hassle standpoint, but it is still financially retarded to lease a car. You may have been cheated by the school that issued your MBA.
