The funny thing about this, it's actually right.

I say we vote on this and those who don't show up to vote make up the third (if not more)

Get rid of the brown ones.

Or simply have everyone on the planet line up and count off "I-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3..."

Then you kill all the 3s.

everyone knows the elderly show up to vote more than any other group. We can't really maintain civilization with a bunch of old retirees.

I say we build soylent green factories. We reduce the population, create jobs and feed the poor.

the WORST part of this idea, which I like a lot, is that you need to take into account the people who voted for sarah palin/mccain.

you can HATE President Obama as much as you want, but you have to admit that he at least went to harvard and passed. EVEN if they used quotas and let him slide on grades.

compare this to palin, who, WTF ....

The logical thing to do is use the natural retrictors, so everyone with a young, healthy, attractively-packaged uterus should be the first to go.

This is why logic is useless.

Immediately? Or can we just do it by dropping the birth rate? I'd think a virus causing sterility in about 50% of exposed females would also have about the same impact over the long term.

Reminds me of that episode of Sliders... a virus that targeted cells with Y chromosomes. Most of the world's male population died and the society had no invitro fertilization technology. So the world became female-dominated and the remaining men were placed in special centers where they would fark all day to repopulate the planet.

Because you need a decoder ring to drive there. "Densly Populated Area" on a road sign means 35 mph? I could have worded it better.

I'm just mocking the neo-Malthusian idea that the problem is too many brown people, when the truth is consumption dwarfs population as the main threat to the environment. Take carbon emissions. The wealthiest 7% of the planet produces 50% of the carbon emissions while the poorest 50% are responsible for just 7% of emissions. Virtually all of the 2 billion in population growth for the next 40 years will occur in the poorest 50% and will only raise their emission level from 7% to 11%. So, even if we achieved zero population growth today, it would have virtually no impact. The same is true across a wide range of issues related to consumption and waste. Sustaining the lifestyle of the average American uses about 9.5 hectares of land, for Germans that number is 4.2, the world average is 2.7, and for much of India and Africa (where most of the population growth will occur) it is below 1. If you have a child in America today, his or her environmental impact will be equivalent, across their lifespan, to four Chinese children, 55 Indian children, or 86 Nigerian children.

Sure, and the exit from Boston airport to the tunnel is a Darwinian experiment. If you pass that test, there's always route 9 to weed out the weak.

I say we shoot for a two-thirds reduction.
I like it quiet.

3 step plan. Have a lottery, give 2/3 of the people tickets that allow them to live. Have a waiting period where the people who got losing tickets can petition one of the winners to trade tickets with them. For example, if you got a winning ticket and Steven Hawking got a losing ticket you could trade yours with him because you think he would make a better contribution to the human race. At the end of the waiting period, instead of killing the one third with losing tickets, have a second surprise lottery and exempt all the people who were willing to give their lives up for someone else and the people they deemed important enought to die for. (Also kill all the people involved in running the lottery by default, because they would have too much of an incentive to game the system).

The US has a total of about 400million people, and even if you're restricting the problem to the US Texas is fairly low-pop-density on average. The best place to start would be either the New York metropolitan area or California, farking with the areas that grow the food and are potentially self-sustaining is the wrong way to approach the issue.

//The quick fix is to take out the areas that are setting up to become high per-capita-impact areas without reducing their population. Goodbye China, Goodbye, India, problem deferred for a couple centuries.

Sleeping Monkey: Religious people first. They have somewhere else to be anyway.

Not just somewhere else, somewhere much better. Seems like they'd want to volunteer. If that's too close to suicide, they could just kill each other since having another religion is a capital offense for a lot of them anyway. Build a new Colosseum and put it on pay-per-view, make a mint.

After that's done, one kid for every couple and that's it. Mandatory sterilization while freezing a few extra gametes in case the first kid dies. That, plus people who don't or can't have kids, should drop the population pretty fast.

Once it gets to a sustainable number, everyone can replace themselves and that's it. So if each kid is half you, you can father/mother a max of two kids. If you and someone who doesn't want two can work something out, you can punch their kid card.

Yah, but we both know that the sort of people who subscribe to such things really wouldn't have a chance of it happening to them.
