I'm always happy to see major sponsors enter NASCAR. Hopefully they'll like what they get out of it and decide to make a more substantial commitment.

I don't shop at Walmart because the Super Target has the exact same things and I gladly pay the extra 1-3% for non-concrete-gum-covered stank floors and packed parking lots.

Don't shop there for any "real" food though (like steak/chicken etc....cheese and milk and also anything in a can is fine).

But now I've moved even farther south Georgia there isn't even a WalMart here. A Piggly Wiggly a couple of miles away and then a crappy Ingles about 15 miles away.

Kinda funny though. I can get to an ER, a full hospital, an Internist, two Doctors, a physical therapy center, and 4 different churches before I can get even within 10 miles of the closest place that will sell liquor.

But I also have an amazing view of an entire state park and the roads down here are curvy and smooth as glass.

/Federally funded because this is where FDR used to rehab

I am stunned to learn of this new affiliation between NASCAR & Wal-Mart. I assumed it had already been going on for at least a decade. Can you tell I quit watching when the cars no longer resembled OEM stock production?

It's Bill Elliot. He'll probably make the race on a provisional and then run 3 laps and park the car.

I prefer Super Target over Walmart myself. It gives me the illusion of being classy...

soopey: It's Bill Elliot. He'll probably make the race on a provisional and then run 3 laps and park the car.

Provisional yes but he probably won't park in the Daytona with this kind of sponsor. Not that he'll be competitive, although these days the restrictor tracks are the one place small-fry outfits can win. See last year's Daytona as just one example.

You should check out the cars they're going to be running in 2013. So far only Ford has debuted theirs, but it looks better and more "stock" than anything the series has run in maybe 20 years. I can't wait for these boxy, identical cars they run now are gone. If Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota can come up with anything near as good as Ford, they'll have some great looking cars on the track again.

They were in business about a year before anybody figured out that they were importing the chassis and assembling the rollers at the shop. There wa some mild outrage, but it's pretty much died down.

They do REALLY well in Australia.

Don't count out Bill just yet. He's going to have Hendrick power under the hood, which means he'll probably link up in a tandem with another Hendrick Satellite car, like Kurt Busch or one of the Stewart Haas cars.

I'm just a bit worried because he's been out of it for a couple years, and the tandem has really evolved since he last raced a plate track. That probably means their strategy will be to do the "hang back 90% of the race then make a run."

I lived in New Hampshire most of my life and the only things I ever bought at Walmart were a board game I couldn't find anywhere else and a video game that only they had in stock. My experiences are in New England so YMMV but if you knew the area it was never hard to find a local store to shop at if you knew what you wanted before you went in.

That said, if I ever wanted to rethink the money I was spending at college I could always pop in and remind myself why it was worth it.

Sweet. I've always wanted to go. I already checked the Indy 500 off my bucket list, so maybe Daytona should be next. Take lots of pics and post em in the thread when you get back!

As for Fantasy racing, I found it was pretty fun last season, and a good way to get me to pay attention to/root for drivers I otherwise wouldn't notice much.

Quite the opposite. Wal-Mart wanted exclusivity if they entered the sport. Since they figured that NASCAR needed them more than they needed NASCAR, they've been holding out. When you deal with Wal-Mart, they dictate the terms.

Good lord no but from my experience with Seabrook I can only imagine. No the two Walmarts I ever went in were Concord and Dover, both were clean enough but that Dover store was a shelving disaster.

What the hell, I did it a couple of seasons back, and I did tell Jensaarai that I'd probably be in this year. And the Farkers Hockey has my competitive juices flowing, so maybe I'll pay enough attention to be successful!

Nope. This is a one race deal. The Target sponsership isn't going anywhere (yet). And it wouldn't be a Daytona race without Montoya wrecking someone, so this could be fun.
