Was the Captain reading FARK and thought the bridge was a photoshop? WE will never know.

Who was driving the ship? Francesco Schettino?

The ADT for that bridge is only 2,800?
In So Cal we have residential streets that see more traffic in a day.

My cousin and his wife used to live close to that bridge. It's a good thing he moved 4 months ago. The bridge closure would have been very inconvenient for him.

FTFA : "Motorists have been advised to take alternate routes."

Sounds like a good idea.

I used to drive over that damned crappy bridge going to work and back each day - it was nearly 80 damned years old and so narrow that I was always scared that a semi would knock me into the water. I will be a huge inconvience trying to get around now if you are going to Land Between the Lakes or Cadiz from my house but luckily, I don't go that direction very often now.

I am so glad that no one was hurt or killed - it could have been so much worse if it was during the summer tourist season...

Wowzers!!!
That grandfather is giving older drivers a good name.

I'm originally from that area, my family still lives there. I too have driven over that thing many a time. It is a very narrow, very scary bridge. Sure only 2800 ppl a day use it, but it's the only bridge across for dozens of miles. As it is, right now my Sister in Murray now has a very good excuse to NOT visit our parents in Trigg County. So for her, it's not so big a disaster at all.

Who is Eggner Ferry?

I hope it didn't disturb the peregrine falcons that were nesting on the superstructure.

So, a plane on a boat hits a car?

Any excuse not to visit Trigg County is appreciated by all.

Here's a good daytime pic. Notice all the bridge shiat on the left side of the boat.

Yikes, now we have two bridges that are closed in Kentucky!

Glad no one got killed.
At least it was not the Caroll C. Cropper Bridge. That bridge has had many hits by barges in its history.

We have too many bridges. They are a menace.

Not at all, they can still head south to Paris Tn. Or north to Paducah, or west to Cairo, Il.... hold on, you may be right.

That scenario of the bridge disappearing in front of you is one of my nightmares.
If I had been that gentleman who stopped just in time, my seat would have definitely been wet.

The 312-foot-long cargo ship was built to navigate shallow waterways and was carrying empty rocket booster cores, Coast Guard Lt. Jason Franz told The Sun.

Is this shiat holding up the space program?

Those are the only places you can really go from Murray during the winter anyway. Because who goes to LBL in the winter?

FTFA: LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The voyage of a cargo boat that carries space rocket components to Florida's coast for NASA and the Air Force has stalled in a western Kentucky river after it slammed into an aging traffic bridge.

A bridge for older drivers? Older cars? Cars that have been in traffic a long time?

Hmm - with Robert Parker getting caught in it I was more expecting a terse, lyrical description of the scenery, followed by comments on the donut quality available at the accident aftermath. With perhaps the boat company hiring him to find out what REALLY happened. Cue random poking around like a bull in a china shop till someone makes a mistake and thus reveals all - Parker and mysterious black man shoot up perpetrators. Book at 11!

//interludes with Susan to taste

///from beyond the grave... but it wouldn't surprise me much. Dude liked to write. A lot.
